The Bid Process and Equipment Details
The project encompassed a range of storage equipment needs within Section 1056 of the new construction projects. We supplied a total of 17 different storage items tailored to the transit authority’s needs. Let’s delve into the details.
The majority of the equipment supplied was geared toward storing parts and tools for servicing buses. This included modular drawer cabinets for holding tools and small parts, as well as cantilever racking for larger bus components.

This project was subject to Buy America requirements, which are even more stringent than Buy American standards. This added complexity to the bidding process, as some preferred manufacturers didn’t meet Buy America criteria.
Utility of Standing Desks
We introduced standing desks from Tennsco, which are made in America. These desks offered an ergonomic solution for workspace needs.
Two rolling work platforms were incorporated into the design, allowing easy access to the tops of buses for maintenance and repairs. These platforms were sourced from Service Scaffold, a manufacturer that aligned with the project’s specifications.
Gravity flow rack was provided for battery storage. These unique racks were tailored to accommodate large bus batteries, and we sourced them from Borroughs. They are designed to ensure safe and efficient battery storage.
To meet various storage requirements, we supplied bulk storage racks from Lion, Equipto, and MATERIAL HANDLING-USA Brands. These racks are versatile, accommodating a range of items, from lightweight parts to heavier components.
To streamline part retrieval and organization, two large vertical lifts were installed. These lifts, not carousels, were sourced to efficiently manage small parts storage.
Enhancing Productivity
The vertical lifts come equipped with tray spacing and a user-friendly interface. This allows employees to quickly locate and retrieve the necessary parts, significantly enhancing productivity.
For receiving and sorting parts, a heavy-duty steel table with a 1,500-pound capacity was provided. The 13-gauge steel tabletop ensures it can withstand the demands of daily use.
Manufacturers like Lyon, Equipto, and Justrite offer options that meet Buy America requirements for such storage needs. For every application there is a best solution and that is the service we provide. We align with many vendors to provide the best solution for your application.
The project also included the provision of self-tipping hoppers, capable of holding three-quarters of a yard of material. These hoppers are mounted on forklifts and simplify the task of bulk material handling.
Our team took into account seismic requirements to ensure the safety and stability of the storage systems provided. This includes calculations, anchor placement, and proper footplate sizing.
The stainless steel countertop served as a parts counter and was a unique specification in the project.
