Complete Rooftop Access for Every Bus

Bus rooftop access platforms provide maintenance technicians with safe, stable elevated work surfaces for servicing HVAC systems, destination signs, emergency hatches, roof skins, and increasingly, battery systems on electric buses.

Unlike portable ladders or mobile scaffolding that provide limited single-point access, our fixed platforms surround the bus on both sides — giving technicians 360-degree access to the entire rooftop without repositioning equipment.

Every platform includes OSHA-compliant guardrails (42-inch top rail, 21-inch mid-rail), 4-inch toe boards, anti-slip expanded metal decking, and integrated stair access with self-closing gates. Platforms are engineered to your exact bus dimensions and service bay layout.

Platform Configurations

Single-Side Platforms

Elevated walkway along one side of the bus for targeted rooftop access. Ideal for HVAC-specific maintenance or facilities with limited floor space.

Dual-Side Platforms

Platforms on both sides of the bus providing complete rooftop access. Technicians can work on either side without repositioning or floor-level travel.

Full-Surround Platforms

Platforms wrapping around the front and rear of the bus in addition to both sides. Maximum access for complete bus overhauls and heavy maintenance.

Adjustable-Height Platforms

Configurable platform heights accommodating different bus types — from low-floor transit buses to standard school bus heights — in the same service bay.

Applications for Bus Rooftop Platforms

Bus rooftop access platforms serve critical functions across multiple maintenance tasks:

  • HVAC Service: Rooftop air conditioning and heating unit maintenance, filter replacement, refrigerant service
  • Roof Skin Repair: Fiberglass and aluminum roof panel inspection, leak repair, and replacement
  • Destination Sign Maintenance: LED sign access for repair, replacement, and cleaning
  • Emergency Hatch Inspection: Annual testing and maintenance of roof emergency exits
  • Battery System Access: Electric bus battery pack inspection, diagnostics, and module replacement
  • Antenna & Camera Systems: GPS, radio, and security camera installation and servicing

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the standard platform height for bus rooftop access?

Platform heights are custom-engineered to match your bus fleet. Most transit buses require platforms at 10-12 feet. School buses typically need 8-10 foot platforms. We design to your specific bus rooftop height for optimal ergonomic working position.

How wide are the work platforms?

Standard platform widths range from 24 to 48 inches. We recommend 36-inch minimum for general maintenance and 48-inch platforms for battery access or heavy component work where technicians need room for tools and equipment.

Can platforms be used with different bus types?

Yes. Adjustable-height platforms or multi-height configurations can accommodate different bus types in the same service bay — from low-floor transit buses to taller coach-style vehicles.

What is the load capacity of the platforms?

Our standard platforms are rated for 75 lbs/sq ft per OSHA scaffold requirements. Heavy-duty configurations supporting 100+ lbs/sq ft are available for applications requiring heavier equipment or component staging.
