Built for High-Volume Transit Operations

City transit authorities maintain hundreds — sometimes thousands — of buses on tight schedules. Preventive maintenance programs require efficient, safe access to bus rooftops for HVAC servicing, body repair, destination sign maintenance, roof inspections, and increasingly, battery system access on electric buses.

Our transit bus scaffolding systems are designed for the demands of public transit maintenance. Multi-bay configurations with connecting catwalks allow technicians to move between service bays without descending to floor level. Integrated stair systems, self-closing safety gates, and OSHA-compliant guardrails are standard on every installation.

We work with transit authorities of all sizes — from 50-bus regional agencies to 5,000+ vehicle metropolitan systems — engineering scaffold solutions that maximize maintenance throughput while exceeding safety standards.

Transit Scaffolding Configurations

Single-Bay Service Platform

Complete elevated access around one bus service position. Guardrails, stairs, and platforms on both sides for full rooftop access. Ideal for smaller agencies or adding incremental capacity.

Multi-Bay Connected Systems

2-10+ bay configurations with catwalks connecting all positions. Technicians access any bus from a continuous elevated walkway without floor-level transitions.

Drive-Through Bay Design

Platforms that allow buses to drive through service bays without scaffold disassembly. Retractable end sections or raised clearance designs maintain workflow efficiency.

Articulated Bus Platforms

Extended-length configurations for 60-foot articulated buses. Platform sections span the full bus length including the articulation joint for complete rooftop access.

Trusted by Transit Authorities Nationwide

Municipal and regional transit agencies depend on reliable maintenance infrastructure for daily fleet operations. Our scaffolding systems are built to perform in demanding transit environments:

  • 24/7 Operations: Platforms built for round-the-clock maintenance shifts with durable galvanized steel construction
  • Heavy-Duty Construction: Load-rated platforms supporting multiple technicians, tools, and equipment simultaneously
  • ADA-Compliant Access: Stair and platform designs meeting accessibility requirements for maintenance personnel
  • Procurement Support: We work within government RFP/RFQ processes and comply with Buy America provisions when required

Government & Transit Authority Procurement

We work within standard procurement processes for public transit agencies. GSA Schedule availability, cooperative purchasing agreements, and Buy America compliance. Contact our transit team at (800) 326-4403.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many bus bays can your scaffold system cover?

Systems run from a single-bay platform to multi-bay layouts connected by catwalks. We design to your facility layout, and you can add bays later as your fleet grows.

Can the platforms accommodate both standard and articulated buses?

Yes. We design platforms for standard 40-foot transit buses and longer configurations for 60-foot articulated buses. Facilities with mixed fleets can have different bay configurations side by side.

What roof work do transit platforms support?

Typical tasks include servicing rooftop HVAC units, inspecting and cleaning roof hatches and seals, working on battery packs or CNG tanks, replacing destination signs and antennas, and body and paint repair along the roofline.

Is the scaffolding OSHA compliant?

Bus maintenance platforms in a garage fall under OSHA’s general-industry walking-working surface rules (29 CFR 1910 Subpart D). Guardrail systems need a top rail at 42 inches (plus or minus 3 inches), mid-rails, and toe boards where tools could fall. Our designs include these, plus slip-resistant decking, and we review the requirements for your shop during design. See our OSHA fall protection guide for bus maintenance for details.

Do you work with government procurement processes?

Yes. We regularly work with municipal and regional transit procurement offices through RFP and RFQ processes and can provide the drawings and documentation needed for government purchasing.

What maintenance is required for the scaffolding?

Plan on periodic checks of bolted connections, guardrails, gates and decking condition. Most agencies add these checks to their existing facility inspection schedule.

Can we add bays later?

Yes. Our modular designs let you add bays, extend platforms, change heights or reconfigure the layout as your fleet changes, without replacing the parts you already own.

What information do you need to quote a system?

Send us the makes and models of the buses you service (length and roof height, including roof-mounted HVAC, batteries or CNG tanks), a photo or sketch of each bay with door locations, lifts, pits and overhead obstructions, and the work you do up top. Then request a quote and we’ll come back with a layout and price.
