What Storeganizer is

Pallet racking is excellent at what it was designed for: storing pallets of fast-moving product. It is a poor container for a box of fittings. Put small, slow-moving SKUs on shelves inside a rack bay and most of the cube in that bay stays empty — you are paying rent, lighting and heating on air.

Storeganizer is the original slim-fit storage system built to solve exactly that. Instead of shelves, a bay is filled with vertical columns of suspended pockets made from coated industrial textile. Each pocket is one pick location. Columns hang from a universal top bar that sits on your existing rack beam, and they can be suspended up to four rows deep in the bay. Because the columns are light, the front rows roll sideways by hand to expose the rows behind them.

The result is a dense, walk-up pick face where a run of shelving used to hold a handful of boxes. A single 96" high bay can hold 252 extra-small pick locations. Nothing is automated, there is no software to integrate and there are no moving parts to maintain — which is why it is often specified as the low-risk alternative to a vertical carousel, a vertical lift module or a low-level mezzanine.

Each SKU gets its own textile pocket sized close to the part, so the cube inside the bay is actually used instead of being wasted above and around boxes on a shelf.

The performance numbers, and where they come from

The three headline figures quoted for Storeganizer — 40% more usable storage space, 42% less travel time and a 26% gain in order-picking efficiency — come from independent research carried out at the University of Leuven in Belgium, comparing a Storeganizer installation against conventional rack-and-shelf storage. The manufacturer also publishes a 40% carbon-footprint reduction for the system.

Those are averages, not a promise. What they translate to in your building depends on one thing: how much of your rack is currently holding small items in locations far larger than the items need. Warehouses with a long tail of slow-moving SKUs on wide-span shelving typically see the biggest gain. Operations that are already dense and mostly full-pallet see less.

Individual results reported by users have been considerably larger than the averages. A German manufacturer combined small, medium and large pockets to reach 2,759 storage locations and now holds around 4,000 SKUs in the space that previously held about 1,000 on shelving. That is why we quote the study figures for planning and then measure your own before-and-after during the design survey.

The arithmetic is easier to see than to describe. A bay holding pallets of small parts offers a handful of pick locations; the same bay converted to pocket columns offers hundreds, because each pocket is sized to the item instead of to the pallet. That is the whole mechanism behind the space figure — nothing is compressed and nothing is stacked less safely.

  • Heavy items — capacity is measured in tens of pounds per pocket, not hundreds
  • Full-case and full-pallet fast movers, which belong on beams, flow rack or carton flow
  • Long or rigid product such as bar, pipe and extrusion, which belongs on cantilever rack
  • Sharp, unpackaged parts with exposed edges, unless a heavier textile grade is specified
  • Items that must be locked or sealed for security or evidence chain-of-custody
  • Sites where a closed, climate-sealed or fully automated enclosure is a hard requirement

An honest sizing rule of thumb

If a part fits comfortably in a shoebox, turns less than daily, and currently occupies a shelf location several times its own volume, it is a Storeganizer candidate. If it needs a forklift or two hands and a back brace, it is not.

Which SKUs earn their place in a pocket

Slotting decides whether a conversion pays for itself. Three properties of an item settle it: how large the item is, how much stock you hold of it, and how often it is ordered. Size and stock volume determine whether a pocket can hold it at all. Order frequency determines where in the building the bay should sit — not whether pockets are the right home.

Reading the model

  • Small item, modest stock, any frequency. The clearest win. Fasteners, fittings, seals, connectors, boxed spares and small assemblies each get their own address in a fraction of the space.
  • Small item, deep stock. Split it: pick face in pockets, replenishment stock on a pallet above. The pocket becomes a forward pick location rather than the whole inventory.
  • Bulky item. Leave it in pallet rack, on boltless shelving or on cantilever. Pockets carry up to 44 lb (20 kg) each and are not a substitute for case or pallet storage.
  • Very high-velocity item. Consider carton flow for case picking alongside pockets for the long tail — the two coexist well in the same aisle.

Pockets, columns, dividers, covers and labels

A Storeganizer solution is assembled from a small number of parts, which is what keeps it flexible. Columns of pockets hang from universal steel top bars. Pocket dimensions are selected from the standard US range below, or made to order. Every configuration can be extended later by adding bays or changing pocket styles — you are not locked into the first layout.

Textile grades

The fabric specification sets both the load the column can carry and how much abrasion it will take before it wears. Most warehouses are specified on Tiger+; heavy or sharp-edged parts and very high pick rates move up the range.

Rack compatibility and installation

The top suspension is universal, so columns hang from the beams of virtually any pallet rack regardless of manufacturer or beam profile. What we need to know before quoting is straightforward: the bay inner width, the bay inner depth, the usable bay height and the beam height and depth. Standard US configurations are 96", 108" and 144" high bays at 42" deep, with 96" and 144" clear widths the most common.

Installation is fast and non-destructive. Nothing is drilled, welded or bolted into the rack; there is no anchoring, no permit drawing and no electrical work. A column is hung by one person in minutes, and a screw-free assembly option is available. On a typical project our crew hangs a full run of bays in a shift, and because bays can be commissioned one at a time you can keep picking out of the old shelving until the new pick face is stocked.

Small items stop occupying shelf locations many times their size. Released bays go back to work holding fast movers, or defer a building expansion or an offsite lease entirely.

What is Storeganizer?
Storeganizer is a high-density storage system built from vertical columns of suspended textile pockets that hang inside a standard pallet rack bay. It replaces shelving for small, slower-moving items and creates far more individual pick locations in the same footprint. It is manufactured by KTP conTeyor in Belgium and supplied and installed in the United States by Material Handling USA.
How much space does Storeganizer actually save?
Independent research carried out at the University of Leuven in Belgium found an average 40% gain in usable storage space, a 42% reduction in operator travel time and a 26% gain in order-picking efficiency compared with conventional rack-and-shelf storage. Your own result depends on how much of your rack is currently holding small items in oversized locations.
Will Storeganizer fit my existing pallet rack?
In most cases, yes. The top suspension bar is universal and hangs from the rack beam, so the columns fit standard teardrop, structural and most other beam profiles without modifying the rack. Our team measures your bay inner width, depth and height, and the beam height and depth, before quoting. If you do not have rack in the right place, we can supply and install it.
How much weight can a Storeganizer column hold?
Column capacity depends on the textile grade specified: roughly 70 lb per column for Tiger up to about 165 lb per column for the heavy-duty PC380 fabric, and the manufacturer rates the system at up to 220 lb (100 kg) per column. Individual pockets are rated in the 44 lb range depending on the size and grade. We confirm the exact rated load on your quote before anything is built.
How many pick locations do I get per bay?
It depends on the pocket size and the bay height. A 96″ high bay gives 252 extra-small locations, 126 small, 65 medium, 45 large or 28 extra-large locations. A 144″ bay gives 396 extra-small or 198 small locations. The Storeganizer Designer calculates this for your bay size in a couple of minutes.
Can I reach the pockets in the back rows?
Yes. Pockets are suspended up to four rows deep and the front columns are lightweight enough to roll sideways by hand — even when loaded — so the rows behind are exposed. Customers who evaluated the system specifically tested this concern, and also confirmed there is enough light in the back rows to pick accurately.
What options are available?
Front stops to keep parts from falling forward, front covers for dust and contamination protection, in-pocket dividers to split a pocket into more locations, and label or barcode holders on every pocket. Pocket dimensions can also be made to order if none of the standard styles suit your parts.
Is Storeganizer covered by a warranty?
Yes — the textile pockets carry up to a 10-year rip-and-crack warranty. The system is designed to be maintenance free: there are no drives, motors, annual service contracts or software to maintain.
What is Storeganizer made of, and is it recyclable?
The pockets are made from coated industrial textile. The manufacturer has also released NexTTex, a 100% polypropylene, 100% recyclable membrane that is as strong as PVC-coated fabric, roughly 30% lighter, with excellent UV resistance and a stated 50% lower carbon footprint.

Equipment OEMs carrying spares for every unit ever shipped are the classic case: thousands of SKUs, low pick frequency, enormous footprint.

Kitting and line feed

High-density storage next to a kitting bench keeps the components for a kit within a few steps of the person building it.

The measure that matters is SKUs stored per square foot of floor, not shelf feet. Most plants are storing air: a 300mm deep shelf holding a part that occupies 60mm, repeated a few thousand times. Recovering that space is generally the fastest way to free up production floor without touching the building.

This is also the storage that most often gets left out of an expansion plan. If you are adding a line or moving into a new building, it is worth deciding where the spares and MRO live before the equipment layout is frozen, not after.
