Installation Day — What to Expect

Modular building installation is the moment everything comes together — your factory-manufactured building arrives on-site and transforms from panels on a truck to a fully functional, climate-controlled workspace in 1–5 days. Understanding the installation process helps you prepare your facility, coordinate with your operations team, and know exactly what to expect at each stage.

Material Handling USA handles every aspect of installation withour trained crews. We don’t subcontract installation to general contractors who’ve never assembled modular buildings — our teams have installed thousands of modular structures in warehouses, factories, outdoor sites, and challenging environments. Here’s exactly what happens from pre-installation planning through final walkthrough.

Installation Day — What to Expect

Installation Steps

The installation process follows these steps — in order — for a smooth, professional result.

1. Pre-Installation Planning

2–4 weeks before delivery, we coordinate with your team on: delivery date and time, access route for the delivery truck, staging area for panelsand components, forklift or crane availability (if needed), electrical supply location, and any special access requirements.

2. Site Preparation

Before the building arrives: clear the installation area, ensure the floor or foundation is leveland clean, confirm electrical supply is in place, and establish a staging area for components. For exterior buildings, the foundation must be completed and cured.

3. Panel Assembly

Our crew assembles wall panels, corner posts, door frames, and window frames using battery-powered tools. No welding, no concrete, minimal noise. A standard office assembles in 4–8 hours. Multi-room buildings take 1–3 days.

4. Ceiling, HVAC & Electrical

Ceiling panels are set, HVAC units are positioned and connected, and the pre-wired electrical panel is connected to your facility power. A licensed electrician makes the final power connection — typically completed in 2–4 hours.

5. Final Walkthrough

Our crew leader walks you through the completed building: verify all rooms, doors, windows, HVAC, lighting, and outlets. Test everything. Document any items needing attention. Hand off keys, manuals, and maintenance instructions.

During Installation — Your Operations Continue

During Installation — Your Operations Continue

The most important thing about modular installation is what doesn’t happen: your operations don’t stop. Our crews use battery-powered impact driversand drill/drivers — not pneumatic nail guns, welders, or concrete saws. Panel assembly produces no dust (unlike drywall construction), no fumes (unlike painting or adhesive work), and minimal noise (comparable to a busy office, not a construction site).

For in-plant installations, we coordinate with your operations team to ensure our assembly work doesn’t interfere with forklift traffic, production activities, or shipping operations. Our crews follow your facility’s safety requirements including PPE, traffic patterns, and hot work restrictions. For multi-day installations, we clean up and secure the work area at the end of each day so your next shift operates without construction obstacles.

Installation Advantages

Professional Crews — Our installation teams have assembled thousands of modular buildings — they know how to work efficiently in your operating environment.
1–5 Day Timeline — From first panel to finished building in 1–5 days — not weeks or months of construction disruption.
No Dust or Fumes — Panel assembly is clean — no drywall dust, no paint fumes, no adhesive off-gassing. Your facility air stays clean throughout installation.
Minimal Noise — Battery-powered tools produce noise levels comparable to normal facility operations — no jackhammers, compressors, or welding noise.
Your Safety Rules — Our crews follow your facility’s safety requirements — PPE, traffic patterns, lockout/tagout, and any site-specific protocols.
Same-Day Use — For single-day installations, you can occupy the building the same day. HVAC is running, lights are on, outlets are powered — move in and start working.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to provide a forklift or crane?
For in-plant installations, a forklift (5,000 lb capacity) is helpful for moving panel bundles from the staging area to the installation location. Our crew can work without a forklift if necessary — panels are hand-carried but this adds time. For two-story installationsand large exterior buildings, a crane may be required — we coordinate crane logistics as part of the project.
Can you install on weekends or off-hours?
Yes. We regularly schedule installations during weekends, holidays, and off-shifts to minimize impact on your operations. Weekend installations are common for facilities that can’t accommodate any weekday disruption. Evening and overnight installations are available for 24/7 operations.
What if something isn’t right during the walkthrough?
Any items identified during the final walkthrough are documented on a punch listand addressed before our crew leaves — or scheduled for follow-up within 1–2 weeks for items requiring parts or materials. We don’t consider a project complete until the punch list is resolved.
How do I prepare my team for installation?
Notify operations staff about the installation date, clear the installation area, ensure forklift availability if needed, identify the electrical panel for power connection, and designate a point of contact for our crew. We provide a pre-installation checklist 2–4 weeks before delivery.
