Boosted capacity, boosted performance

Montel’s BULK&ROLL is a mechanical-assist mobile racking system designed for high-density storage of light to medium loads of bulky items. Racking sections sit on wheeled carriages that ride on floor rail, so ranges park closed against each other and only the aisle someone is working in has to stay open.

Montel built the system around a simple mechanical concept: no motor, no controls to wire — a person turns a geared handle on the end panel, and a tubular steel drive shaft moves the loaded carriage along the rail. A push-button lock keeps a closed range from drifting once it’s parked.

Material Handling USA supplies the Montel BULK&ROLL system and lays the room out from your drawings. Nothing on this page substitutes for that layout — every honest answer about capacity and fit starts with your floor plan and your collection.

What Montel specifies for the 2.4MA

The component list below is Montel’s own published specification for this configuration — we are not adding or estimating capacity, certification, or material claims beyond what Montel states.

Wheels are glass-filled nylon rated for an operating range of -45° to +350°F, resistant to water and most chemical solvents, on stainless steel ball bearings and shafts.

Why a bulky-item storage room goes mobile

Montel frames the BULK&ROLL case around four points, and they hold up in most warehouse and back-store layouts:

  • Efficiency. Consolidating aisle space into one working aisle instead of one aisle per range recovers floor area without moving walls.
  • Avoided expansion cost. Denser use of an existing room can remove or delay the need to buy, build, or rent additional storage space.
  • Investment return. Montel describes the system as a safe investment that yields a high return relative to leasing or construction alternatives — the specific payback depends on your local real estate and labor costs, which we can help you work through.
  • Lower footprint. A smaller storage footprint can reduce a facility’s overall energy use for heating, cooling and lighting the space.

Where Montel positions BULK&ROLL

Montel lists automotive, military, retail and warehouse as suited markets for this system, and describes general applications including convenience stores, back stores, luggage handling, warehouses and hardware stores — general storage of bulky items rather than paper filing or records.

If your project is palletized inventory on beams rather than shelved bulky items, ask us about our pallet rack line instead, including mobile pallet rack options — BULK&ROLL is a lighter-duty shelf-based system, not a substitute for beam-and-upright pallet rack.

Planning decisions worth making before rail goes down

📏

Floor levelness

Montel’s tolerance is 1/2" over any 10′ run. An existing slab outside that range needs shimming, a built-up deck, or a recessed rail detail before installation.

⚙️

Range length and load

Rail runs the length you specify, up to Montel’s published bar length; total range weight and how often the aisle moves affect how many carriages and handles you need.

What’s actually being stored

BULK&ROLL suits bulky items at light-to-medium load, not palletized freight. Tell us the item type and weight so we can confirm fit against Montel’s 2,400 lb/section rating.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Montel BULK&ROLL mobile racking system?
BULK&ROLL is a mechanical-assist mobile racking system built by Montel Inc. Racking sections ride on wheeled carriages that travel on floor rail, so the ranges park closed against one another and only the aisle in use has to stay open. Montel positions BULK&ROLL as a light-duty system for general storage of light to medium loads of bulky items.
What does "2.4MA" mean?
It is Montel’s model designation for this configuration: a mechanical-assist mobile system rated by Montel at 2,400 lb per wheel channel section (about 1,089 kg). "MA" is Montel’s shorthand for mechanical assist — moved by a geared handle rather than a motor.
How is a range moved?
Montel documents a handle made of glass-filled nylon with a push-button aisle-locking mechanism on each end panel. Turning the handle drives a tubular steel drive shaft that moves the wheeled carriage along the rail; the lock keeps a closed range from drifting once it is parked.
What is the rail and floor requirement?
Montel specifies aluminum rail bars up to 144" long, secured to the floor with concrete screws, with the floor level to within 1/2" over any 10′ run. An out-of-tolerance slab needs shimming, a built-up deck, or a recessed rail detail before rail goes down — that survey happens before layout, not after.
What is the system made of?
Per Montel’s published specification: wheels in glass-filled nylon rated -45° to +350°F; stainless steel ball bearings and wheel shafts; powder-coated steel wheel channels rated 2,400 lb per section with no side members (so there is clear floor space on both sides of the mobile for a worker’s feet); a powder-coated steel tubular drive shaft sealed at each end; and 4D bolted light-duty racking in powder-coated steel. All hardware is stainless steel and the chain mechanism is enclosed to keep moving parts covered.
What does BULK&ROLL get used for?
Montel lists automotive, military, retail and warehouse use, and describes general applications such as convenience stores, back stores, luggage handling, warehouses and hardware stores — general storage of bulky items rather than filing or records.
Is this the same as pallet rack?
No. BULK&ROLL is Montel’s light-duty mobile racking line for bulky items on shelves, not a pallet rack system carrying palletized loads on beams. If your project is palletized inventory, ask us about static or mobile pallet rack instead — see our pallet rack pages for that product family.
How much floor space would this save us?
That depends on your room dimensions, aisle count, ceiling height and what you are storing — it is a layout question, not a catalog number, and Montel does not publish a universal capacity gain either. Send us a dimensioned plan and we will lay out the ranges and count usable shelf space for your space specifically.
Can we get pricing or a lead time on this page?
No — this page is informational only, sourced from Montel’s own product page. For pricing, availability and lead time on the BULK&ROLL 2.4MA system, request a quote and we will follow up with current information from Montel.
What do you need from us to start a layout?
A dimensioned floor plan with ceiling height and any columns or obstructions, a description of what is being stored, and whether the space is existing or under construction. That is enough for a first-pass layout; finishes and options follow after.
