How to Choose Bubble Wrap and Cushioning
Cushioning does two jobs: protect the item from shock and scuffs, and block it so it cannot move in the box. Bubble wrap and foam protect; loose fill, air pillows and paper fill the voids. Most good packs use both: wrap the item, then fill around it so it sits in the middle of the carton with about 2″ of cushioning on every side.
Bubble size sets the job: 3/16″ small bubble for surface protection and light items, 5/16″ medium bubble for general packing, and 1/2″ large bubble for heavier items and filling space. Choose anti-static (pink) bubble or foam for electronics.

Bubbles in or out? Wrap with the bubbles facing the item. The bubbles cushion against the product and the smooth side faces the box wall, which also keeps bubbles from popping against the corrugated.
Bubble Pouches and Bubble Bags

Use foam rolls to interleave and wrap, flush-cut foam pouches for quick repeat packing, convoluted (egg-crate) foam to cradle odd shapes, and foam shippers for instruments and electronics.
