Guided From the Floor: How qwikTRAK Works

Metro qwikTRAK runs a low-profile aluminum rail across the floor, and shelving units roll on
casters that ride the rail. Units park closed against each other and a single working aisle
opens wherever access is needed — the same track-mounted principle as Top-Track, but the
rail lives on the floor instead of the ceiling, which is what lets qwikTRAK carry more weight
per unit.

Because the rail is floor-mounted, a flat, level floor is a prerequisite: an older or uneven
slab may need prep before installation. In exchange, qwikTRAK units are rated to carry
significantly more weight per unit than an overhead system, which makes it the pick for dense,
heavy storage where the floor can take the rail.

Material Handling USA is an authorized Metro dealer, and specifies and installs qwikTRAK
systems using Metro’s own shelving lines — Super Erecta wire and MetroMax polymer —
on the floor-track hardware shown throughout this page.

Capacity & Sizing

qwikTRAK is Metro’s higher-capacity floor-track system. Published specifications, by shelf line:

Spec qwikTRAK
Mount Floor-mounted aluminum rail
Weight capacity — MetroMax i Up to 1,200 lb (544 kg) per unit
Weight capacity — MetroMax Q, Super Erecta, Super Adjustable Up to 2,000 lb (907 kg) per unit
Configuration Single-deep or double-deep
Storage capacity gain Up to 50% more storage than static shelving in the same footprint, per Metro

If floor prep or floor cuts aren’t an option for the room, see
Metro Top-Track instead, an overhead-rail system with no floor
impact, compared in full below.

Shelf & Finish Options

qwikTRAK units share the same shelving lines as Top-Track, so the choice comes down to
environment and load rather than the track itself:

  • Super Erecta — Metro’s original wire shelving, offered in Brite, chrome,
Metroseal 3 and type 304 stainless finishes.
  • Super Adjustable Super Erecta — tool-free post adjustment on the same wire
    shelf platform.
  • MetroMax i / MetroMax Q — polymer matrix shelving with corrosion-resistant
posts, built for wash-down and wet environments.

Metro offers Microban antimicrobial product protection on select Metroseal-finish posts and
shelves; we note this as a manufacturer feature, not a certification or health claim, and any
project requiring a specific listing should be confirmed model-by-model in writing before
order.

Complete Kits & Double-Deep Units

Metro qwikTRAK Floor Track Shelving Double Deep Stationary Intermediate Unit Kits for MetroMax Shelving

Metro publishes qwikTRAK as mobile-unit and stationary-unit kits sized by shelf width, and as
double-deep intermediate kits for projects that need two rows of shelving served by a single
aisle. A kit specifies post finish, shelf type, shelf width and unit count — we confirm
room dimensions, floor condition and target capacity before quoting a specific kit number.

Planning Decisions Before You Buy

🧱

Floor Condition

A flat, level floor is required for the rail; older or uneven slabs may need prep before install.

📊

Load Per Unit

Up to 1,200 lb (MetroMax i) or 2,000 lb (MetroMax Q, Super Erecta) per unit — heavier than Top-Track.

🚪

Aisle Width

One working aisle has to clear code and equipment access, confirmed during layout, not after order.

🧰

Single vs. Double-Deep

Double-deep runs increase density further but need a wider clear aisle to service the back row.

🏗️

Structural Review

Loaded carriage weight on an upper floor should be checked against the building’s structural capacity.

🎨

Shelf Material

Wire (Super Erecta) for general storage, polymer (MetroMax) for wash-down or wet-environment rooms.

Metro qwikTRAK FAQ

What is the difference between Metro qwikTRAK and Top-Track?
qwikTRAK mounts to a floor-mounted rail and carries a higher per-unit weight capacity (up to 2,000 lb vs. 900 lb); Top-Track mounts overhead and keeps the floor completely clear. See our Metro Top-Track page for the overhead option.
How much weight can a Metro qwikTRAK unit hold?
Up to 1,200 lb (544 kg) per unit on MetroMax i, and up to 2,000 lb (907 kg) per unit on MetroMax Q, Super Erecta and Super Adjustable Super Erecta shelving.
Does qwikTRAK require floor work to install?
Yes — the rail is floor-mounted, so a flat, level floor is required, and an older or uneven slab may need leveling or prep before the rail is set.
What shelving can be mounted on qwikTRAK?
Metro’s Super Erecta and Super Adjustable Super Erecta wire shelving, and MetroMax i / MetroMax Q polymer matrix shelving, in Brite, chrome, Metroseal 3 and type 304 stainless finishes depending on the line.
Can qwikTRAK be built double-deep?
Yes — double-deep intermediate and stationary kits are available for projects that need two rows of shelving served by a single working aisle.
Is Metro qwikTRAK NSF certified?
Certifications are model- and finish-specific; we confirm any required listing in writing for the exact kit before order rather than make a blanket certification claim here.
