About the project
Honda of Fishers is a new and used car dealership at 13661 Britton Park Road in Fishers, Indiana, northeast of Indianapolis. Its service department stores customers’ seasonal tire sets — the winter or summer tires that come off the car during a seasonal swap — until the next changeover.
Material Handling USA supplied and installed a Vidir Tire Carousel, a motorized vertical storage system purpose-built for exactly this job: a single machine that lifts and rotates stored tires to an operator at floor level on request, instead of a service bay full of tire racks and floor stacks.
Project scope at a glance
The situation
Dealership service departments that offer seasonal tire storage face the same problem twice a year: a service bay full of loose tire sets, stacked on the floor or on static shelving, that has to be searched by hand every time a customer’s car comes in for a swap. That storage eats usable shop floor space and slows down technicians during the two busiest weeks of the tire season.
A motorized vertical carousel solves both problems at once: tires are stored straight up rather than across the floor, and the carousel brings the requested carrier to the operator instead of having a technician search shelf by shelf.

What Material Handling USA supplied
Material Handling USA supplied and installed a Vidir Tire Carousel Model T45244-1144-12: a single freestanding vertical carousel with 11 carriers on a powered chain drive, a 12-foot horizontal security gate across the load opening, front-mounted forward/reverse controls, and wire mesh guarding on the front and back of the unit. The carousel was anchored to the shop floor with concrete stud anchors per the manufacturer’s installation specification.
Freight, delivery coordination and on-site installation were included in the project, with typical lead time of about 24 weeks from purchase order to delivery for this model.
Full product specifications
Because a tire carousel is a manufactured machine rather than a built-to-suit shelving layout, the full specification sheet is public information and worth showing in detail — it is exactly how this unit was selected and sized for Honda of Fishers’ service department.

What Honda of Fishers gained
Vertical tire carousel or floor/rack storage?
| Vidir Tire Carousel (used here) | Floor stacking or static tire racks | |
|---|---|---|
| Floor footprint | One machine footprint, storage goes vertical | Storage spreads across the shop floor |
| Retrieval | Powered — carousel brings the tire to the operator | Manual — technician walks and searches the rack |
| Security | Horizontal gate controls access to the load opening | Open racks are accessible to anyone in the bay |
| Capacity per sq. ft. | High — carriers stack vertically to 21’+ | Lower — limited to rack height a person can reach |
| Best for | High seasonal tire volume, tight floor space | Low volume, ample floor space |
How a dealership tire carousel gets specified
Sizing a tire carousel starts with three numbers: how many tire sets the service department stores at peak season, the largest tire diameter it needs to hold, and the ceiling height available in the service bay. Those numbers set the carrier count, carrier width and overall machine height before anything is ordered.
On this project Honda of Fishers specified an 11-carrier T45 unit sized for roughly 187 nine-inch-wide tires with a 24″–33″ diameter range, which covers full sets of passenger and light-truck tires along with the wheels seasonal-swap customers bring in. A 12-foot horizontal security gate was added so stored tire sets stay behind a controlled opening rather than an open rack.
Before installation, Vidir’s site survey confirms clearances: ceiling and truss height, door width and height for moving the carousel into the bay, the aisle width the machine needs to operate, and the electrical service — this unit runs on 208V, 3-phase power. Confirming those clearances on paper avoids surprises on delivery day.
