What’s Included in a Rack Relocation
When a warehouse moves buildings, consolidates space, or reconfigures a layout, the existing pallet rack usually moves with it. We handle the full scope as one project: disconnecting and tearing down the existing rack at the old site, transporting it (or coordinating with your mover), and reinstalling it at the new location — engineered and anchored to the same safety standard as a new installation.
- Teardown of existing uprights, beams, and decking at the origin site
- Safe staging, labeling, and loading for transport
- Reinstallation at the new site, including layout adjustments for the new building’s column spacing and dimensions
- Supply of new or replacement components for any rack damaged in the move or no longer needed for the new layout
- Engineered anchoring at the new location, per local seismic and building code requirements
Pricing: With and Without Anchor Drilling
Relocation quotes are priced two ways, because it depends on what’s already at the destination:
- Anchor holes already exist at the destination (a previous rack layout used the same footprint) — this is the lower-cost option, since no new concrete drilling is required.
- New anchor drilling required — if the destination floor has no existing anchor pattern, or the new layout doesn’t match the old one, drilling and anchoring is priced as part of the reinstall.
We quote both scenarios up front so you can compare the real cost difference before committing to a floor plan.
What You Should Clear Beforehand
To keep the project on schedule, the following are typically the customer’s responsibility unless otherwise agreed in writing:
- Product and inventory removed from the rack before teardown begins
- Clear access paths at both the origin and destination sites (aisles, loading docks, elevators)
- Confirmation of who patches anchor holes and restores the floor at the old site — and who fills anchor holes at the new site, if the layout changes again later
- Any permits or building access coordination required at either site
We put these responsibilities in writing on the quote so there’s no ambiguity between your team, ours, and any general contractor involved in the move.
Scheduling a Relocation
Rack relocations are typically scheduled around a facility’s broader moving timeline — teardown at the old site, then reinstall at the new one, often with a gap in between for transport or while the new building is prepped. We work with your move date and can sequence around partial building occupancy if the old site is still operating during the transition.
