Borroughs Flexi-Bin Shelving for Nissan of Las Cruces, New Mexico
A Nissan dealership in southern New Mexico needed a straightforward run of open Flexi-Bin parts shelving. Here is how one preconfigured FB103 unit and a set of add-on sections, in blue, went from quote to factory freight in about six weeks.

Project Snapshot
Nissan of Las Cruces is a Nissan dealership in Las Cruces, New Mexico, in the Mesilla Valley about 45 miles north of El Paso. In June 2025 the dealership asked us to quote Borroughs Flexi-Bin shelving for its parts department: a single run of open-shelf units, ten shelves per section, in blue. It ordered in July, and Borroughs shipped the run by freight directly to the dealership in August.

This case study is based on our quote, our purchase order to Borroughs, the Borroughs order acknowledgement and the Borroughs invoice. We did not find written correspondence with the dealership beyond those documents, so this page describes what was ordered and why that configuration works, not the dealership’s internal reasons or results. We do not publish quantities, pricing, contacts or room layouts for customer projects.
The Order: One Starter Unit Plus Add-On Sections
Our quote described the job in three lines: Flexi-Bin units in one row, one section with a back, and ten shelves per section. On the purchase order to Borroughs that became two kinds of line item. The first was a complete preconfigured Flexi-Bin unit, the FB103. The rest were the separate components that build more sections onto the same run: bin tops, automotive bin bottoms, 84-inch bin sides and slide-in shelves.

Ordering a run this way is common with Flexi-Bin. Borroughs ships each preconfigured unit as a kit, and the invoice for this order lists what the FB103 kit contains: ten slide-in shelves, a bin bottom, a bin top, two bin sides and an 84-inch bin back. The add-on sections were ordered as loose components with the same shelf count, so every section in the run ended up with the same ten shelves as the starter unit.
| Borroughs part | Component | Where it was used |
|---|---|---|
| FB103 | Preconfigured Flexi-Bin unit, 10 shelves | Starter section, supplied as a kit with its own back panel |
| 04445-099 | Bin top | Top of each add-on section |
| 02718-099 | Bin bottom, automotive | Base of each add-on section |
| 04611-099 | Bin sides, 84 in | Slotted side panels that carry the shelves |
| 02720-099 | Slide-in shelf | Ten per add-on section, matching the FB103 |
| 04614-099 | Bin back, 84 in | Included in the FB103 kit only |
Part numbers are taken from the Borroughs purchase order and invoice and cross-checked against the Borroughs Flexi-Bin literature.
Why an Open-Shelf FB103 Layout
Borroughs offers eight preconfigured Flexi-Bin units, FB101 through FB108. All of them use the same frame, 38 inches wide, 12 inches deep and 84 inches high. What changes is the mix inside: open shelves, sliding dividers or drawers. The FB103 is the open-shelf unit with the most shelves.

| Unit | Shelves | Openings | Sliding dividers | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| FB101 | 6 | 7 | None | Bulky boxed parts such as rotors and larger cartons |
| FB102 | 8 | 9 | None | Mid-size boxed parts |
| FB103 | 10 | 11 | None | Smaller boxed parts in more, shorter openings |
| FB105 | 8 | 41 | 32 (3 in high) | Mixed small parts in divided compartments |
| FB106 | 10 | 51 | 40 (3 in high) | Many small part numbers per unit |
| FB107 / FB108 | 10 / 17 | 43 + 12 drawers / 108 drawers | Mixed / none | Loose hardware in drawers |
Shelf, opening and divider counts from the Borroughs Flexi-Bin pre-configured units table. The typical-use column is our general guidance.

Ten shelves in an 84-inch frame gives eleven short openings. That suits a dealership parts room where most stock arrives boxed in the manufacturer’s own cartons: filters, sensors, small brake parts, trim and gaskets. Each box sits on an open shelf with its label facing the aisle, and the parts team can see an empty spot at a glance.
Open shelves also keep the order simple. No dividers were ordered with this run, and Flexi-Bin sliding dividers can be added later to any shelf if a section ends up holding many small part numbers. Borroughs offers them in 1-1/2, 3, 4-1/2 and 6-inch heights.
Shelves that move without unloading
Flexi-Bin shelves slide into the slotted side panels. Borroughs states they adjust on 1-1/2-inch increments, lock in place automatically and are rated at 150 lbs each. Ten shelves per section is the starting point, not a fixed grid. As the dealership’s parts mix changes, a shelf can be moved up or down to open a taller space for larger boxes.
Because the add-on sections use the same 02720-099 slide-in shelf as the FB103, every shelf in the run is interchangeable. That matters later, when a parts manager wants to move shelves between sections rather than buy more.

Back Panels and Finish

The quote called for a back panel on one section only, and that is how the order was placed: the FB103 kit carried its 84-inch back, and the add-on sections were ordered without backs. Borroughs describes its standard white back panels as a picking aid, because a light background makes boxes and labels easier to see.
Whether every section needs a back depends on where the run stands and what is behind it. A run against a wall, a run that will later get a second run back to back, and a freestanding run each answer that question differently. We do not know the dealership’s reasons, so the point for other buyers is simply this: decide where backs go before you order, because the back panel count changes the parts list.
A blue run
The run was ordered in Borroughs blue. Borroughs lists black, blue, industrial gray, mist gray, pebble, red and white as Flexi-Bin colors. Many dealerships match an existing parts room or the brand’s service colors. When a run is built from a preconfigured unit plus loose components, the color has to be specified for every line on the order, so all sections arrive in the same finish. On this order the color was set once for the whole purchase order.
From Quote to Freight Delivery
Quote
June 2025: we quote the dealership one row of Flexi-Bin units with ten shelves per section, one back panel, freight, and an estimated delivery of about two to four weeks.
Order
Early July 2025: the dealership orders, we place the purchase order with Borroughs, and Borroughs enters the order in mid July.
Shipment
August 2025: Borroughs ships the run by freight carrier directly to the dealership in Las Cruces and invoices the order.
From our purchase order to the Borroughs invoice took about four weeks, which sits at the long end of the estimate on the quote. Lead times change with factory schedules, so we confirm the current one on every Flexi-Bin quote. This was a supply order. The quote covered the equipment and freight, not installation, and we have no photos of the finished run, so this page uses representative Borroughs photos and an illustration.
Lessons for Ordering a Flexi-Bin Run
The points below are general guidance from our Flexi-Bin work, not details of the Nissan of Las Cruces parts room. They are the questions we ask any dealership planning a straight run of Flexi-Bin units.
- Pick the shelf count by part size. FB101 and FB102 suit bulky boxed parts. FB103 suits smaller boxes. Divided units such as FB105 and FB106 suit many small part numbers per section.
- Start with one preconfigured unit. A preconfigured unit plus add-on sections keeps the order short and makes every section match.
- Keep shelves interchangeable. Use the same slide-in shelf across the run so shelves can move between sections later.
- Decide where the backs go. Wall runs, freestanding runs and back-to-back runs need different back panel counts.
- Set the color for every line. Starter units and loose components must be ordered in the same finish.
- Plan receiving and assembly. Flexi-Bin ships from Borroughs by freight. Decide who receives the delivery, who assembles the units, and who handles anchoring.
- Leave room to grow. Sliding dividers, drawers and more add-on sections can be added to a Flexi-Bin run later without replacing it.
Anchoring. Borroughs offers a post foot angle (08702-829) for anchoring Flexi-Bin posts to the floor. Your local building official sets the anchoring requirement for your building, so check it before the units arrive.
Need drawers instead? If a section of your parts room holds loose hardware rather than boxed parts, see our guide to industrial shelving with drawers, which covers the FB107 and FB108 drawer units.
Planning a whole parts department? The Borroughs automotive shelving range covers the rest of a dealership parts room, from bulk storage to the counter.

Flexi-Bin for Las Cruces and Southern New Mexico

Las Cruces is a long way from our Salt Lake City office, and this project shows that distance does not change much for a Flexi-Bin order. We quote from your parts list or a short description of the run, order from Borroughs, and Borroughs ships by freight directly to your dealership. A straight run like this one does not need a site visit.
For dealerships elsewhere in the state, our Borroughs automotive shelving in Albuquerque page covers parts-room planning across New Mexico. For the full product picture, including models, components and planning notes, see our main Borroughs Flexi-Bin shelving guide.
