What Is a Prefabricated Ticket Booth?

A ticket booth is a small, secure building where staff sell admission, check tickets or collect fees through a transaction window. A prefabricated booth is built and finished in a factory, then delivered in one piece.

Site-built box offices take weeks of framing, roofing, glazing and electrical work. A prefabricated ticket booth arrives with the walls, roof, windows, door, counter, lighting, outlets and HVAC already installed and tested. On site, the work is setting the booth on a level pad, anchoring it and connecting power.

Material Handling USA supplies prefabricated ticket booths from our manufacturer partner for single or multi-person use, along with other prefabricated booth lines. Every booth is built to order around how many people sell at once, how many lines you run and what equipment sits on the counter.

  • Secure cash and ticket handling behind a locking steel door and sliding or teller-style windows
  • Comfortable staff space with lighting, outlets, heating and air conditioning
  • Faster lines: more windows and better sight lines move more people per minute
  • Custom colors, roof styles and signage so the booth matches your venue

Types of Ticket Booths

Other uses for the same booth include school and campus events, rodeos and race tracks, transit and ferry terminals, drive-through testing sites, and concession or merchandise windows. Need the booth to travel between sites? See ticket booth trailers.

Ticket Booth Styles and Window Layouts

Four builds from our manufacturer partner show how far one booth design can stretch, from a compact two-window ticket stand to a full-glass cashier booth.

Every one of these starts from the same pre-assembled steel booth. Window count, glass height, counter style, color and roof are chosen per order, so you can copy a layout that works at another venue or design your own.

Ticket Booth Sizes

Most prefabricated ticket booths fall between 4×4 ft and 8×16 ft. Pick the size by the number of sellers working at the busiest moment and the number of separate lines you run.

Booth footprint Typical staffing Transaction windows Common use
4×4 ft 1 seller, compact 1 window Parking exit, will-call pickup, small attraction gate
4×6 ft 1 seller 1 window Parking entrance, small attraction, park fee station
5×7 ft 1 seller plus cash drawer and supplies 1–2 windows Museum or zoo admission, valet stand
6×8 ft 1–2 sellers 2 windows (front and side) Fairgrounds gate, school stadium, ski area
8×10 to 8×12 ft 2–3 sellers 3 windows Stadium gate, amphitheater, multi-line box office
8×16 ft 3–4 sellers or ticket plus will-call 4+ windows Large venue box office, festival main gate

Sizing tips. Allow roughly one window per seller, plus a separate window for will-call or pre-paid tickets if those lines run at the same time as walk-up sales. A ticket printer, card reader, cash drawer and a small heater fit comfortably at a 4×6 ft single-seller booth. Once you add a second seller, supply storage or an accessible counter section, 6×8 ft becomes the practical minimum. Because the windows, counter, electrical and HVAC drive most of the cost, it usually pays to size for the busiest day of the year rather than the average one.

Quick-Ship Ticket Booths

When the opening date is close, our manufacturer partner’s quick-ship program offers standard booths from 4×4 to 6×8 ft. They come pre-wired, with an interior stainless steel counter, sliding glass windows and HVAC, and are built on a shorter lead time than fully custom booths.

Quick-ship booths are a good fit for a single seller or a small gate. If you need three or more windows, special finishes or ballistic protection, plan on a custom build. Tell us your date and we will confirm current availability and freight before you order.

Fixed, Portable or Trailer-Mounted?

Where the booth will sit, and for how long, decides which version you need.

Fixed ticket booth Portable (skid) booth Ticket booth trailer
How it is placed Set on a concrete pad and anchored Set by forklift or crane on a level base Towed in on its own trailer
Best for Permanent box offices, park entrances, stadium gates Moving around one property now and then Events and seasonal gates at several sites
Site work Pad, anchors, power and data run underground Level base and a power connection Level, chock and plug in
Permits Usually reviewed as a small building Varies by site and use Often treated as equipment; check locally
Security Anchored, locking door and windows Locking door and windows Locking door; tow it away when not in use

A fixed ticket booth is the right choice when the box office stays in one place for years: a stadium gate, a park entrance or a permanent attraction. It can be anchored, fed by underground power and data, and finished to match surrounding buildings.

If you sell tickets at a fair in summer, a pumpkin patch in fall and an overflow lot in winter, a road-towable ticket booth trailer uses the same booth construction on a trailer chassis, so it can move behind a pickup without a crane.

For booths at higher-risk locations, see our ballistic ratings guide. Ticket booths and guard booths share the same construction, so most guard booth options, such as rooftop HVAC, tinted glazing and bollards, are also available on a ticket booth.

Planning a Ticket Booth Line

A good booth is only half of a fast ticket line. These details decide how many people you can serve per minute.

Windows and counter heightMatch window count to peak staffing. Keep a section of the outside counter no higher than 36 in. so every guest can reach it.
Where the line formsLeave queue space on the window side, away from drive lanes and gates. Separate lanes for walk-up, will-call and pre-paid tickets.
Cash and ticket securityLocking door, pass-through drawers and a lockable cash storage spot keep money and ticket stock out of reach.
Climate and comfortSellers stay in the booth for hours. Size heating and air conditioning for your hottest and coldest event days.
Power and dataPlan circuits for lights, HVAC, printers and card readers, and run network cable or plan a cellular router for ticket scanning.
Signage and visibilityLighted signs, price boards and window decals tell guests which window is theirs before they reach the front of the line.

Lines that are clearly marked move faster and feel shorter. Our crowd control barriers and stadium and arena crowd control guide show how to lay out stanchions and belt barriers in front of ticket windows.

Real Project: Park Booths at Lake Powell

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, 2017

In 2017 the Utah Department of Natural Resources ordered a prefabricated booth from our Salt Lake City team for Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, and the National Park Service bought two more to the same specification. All three were built to handle summer heat, hard sun and cold winter nights, and shipped to the same park warehouse. Park and attraction booths face the same demands as ticket booths: long shifts, constant window traffic and harsh weather. Read the Lake Powell park booths case study to see how one shared specification served two agencies.

How Ticket Booth Installation Works

1

Tell us the job

Where the booth goes, how many sellers and windows, equipment on the counter and the power available.

2

Approve the layout

We send a quote and drawing with size, windows, roof style, colors, HVAC and options.

3

Prepare the site

Pour or level the pad, set anchor points and bring power and data to the booth location.

4

Delivery and set

The booth arrives assembled, is set by crane or forklift, anchored and connected.

Because the booth is finished and tested at the factory, installation on a prepared site usually takes a day or less. The main things to have ready are a level concrete pad or base, clear access for the delivery truck and lifting equipment, and an electrician to make the final connection.

Local rules decide whether a permanent ticket booth needs a building permit, an electrical permit or both. We provide drawings and specifications for your submittal and confirm lead time with the manufacturer when we quote.

What sizes do ticket booths come in?
Common footprints run from 4×4 ft for a single seller to 8×16 ft for three or four sellers with several windows. Custom sizes are built to order.
How many windows does a ticket booth need?
Plan about one transaction window per seller at peak times, plus a separate window for will-call or pre-paid tickets if those lines run at the same time.
Do ticket booths have heating and air conditioning?
Yes. Through-wall or packaged HVAC units are available, and booths come pre-wired for lighting, outlets and ticketing equipment.
Are ticket booths in stock?

Can a ticket booth be moved later?
A skid-mounted booth can be lifted and moved by forklift or crane. If it will move often between sites, a ticket booth trailer is usually the better choice.
How fast can I get a ticket booth?
Quick-ship booths in standard sizes from 4×4 to 6×8 ft have short lead times. Some common sizes are in stock at select manufacturers, subject to confirmation. Custom booths are built to your schedule; we confirm lead time and freight with your quote.
Can a ticket booth match my venue’s look?
Yes. Booths come in custom colors with options such as faux brick or stone siding, architectural trim and lighted signage, so they can match nearby buildings or your brand.
