Direct-to-you shopping warehouses run on a different clock than a traditional distribution center. Orders come in continuously, SKU counts run high, and a delay in receiving your pallet rack is a delay in getting a facility live — every week without racking is a week of freight sitting on the floor instead of on a shelf.

Material Handling USA solves that by keeping our most-requested teardrop pallet rack physically in stock at our Salt Lake City, Utah location. Whether you are standing up a new fulfillment center along the Wasatch Front or expanding an existing one, you can get local delivery or pick the rack up yourself the same day, instead of waiting on a factory build slot.

  • Regular-duty and heavy-duty teardrop uprights and beams stocked locally
  • Standard orange-beam, green-upright color coding for fast visual bay identification
  • Local delivery around the Wasatch Front, or will-call pickup at our Salt Lake City warehouse
  • Wire decking, pallet support bars, row spacers, and impact protection specified with the layout

Selective rack gives every pallet position direct forklift access — no digging through a lane to reach the pallet you need next.

Which Pallet Rack Type Fits a Fulfillment Warehouse?

Most direct-to-consumer operations lean on selective rack because pick velocity and SKU variety matter more than squeezing every cubic foot of density out of the building. Drive-in and push-back rack still earn a place in the layout for bulk single-SKU storage or where floor space runs short.

Selective pallet rack rows in a distribution center giving a forklift direct access to every pallet positionSelective Pallet RackThe standard for direct-to-you fulfillment: every pallet position is reachable without moving another pallet first. Best where SKU count is high and pick velocity matters more than raw density.
Forklift driving into a drive-in pallet rack lane for high-density bulk pallet storageDrive-In / Drive-Through RackThe forklift drives into the rack structure itself to place or pull a pallet. Trades selectivity for density — suited to large quantities of the same SKU, like bulk packaging stock or seasonal overflow.
Push-back pallet rack with nested carts on inclined rails for high-density case storagePush-Back Pallet RackPallets load onto nested carts that ride inclined rails; each new pallet pushes the row back one position (LIFO). Good middle ground of density and selectivity for warehouses short on floor space but still juggling multiple SKUs.

Not Sure Which Mix You Need?

We size selective, drive-in and push-back rack together against your SKU count, pallet turns and building footprint — most direct-to-you warehouses end up running mostly selective rack with a smaller drive-in or push-back zone for bulk packaging stock.

Teardrop Pallet Rack: What’s Actually in the Bay

The teardrop connection is what makes this rack fast to install and easy to reconfigure. Upright columns are punched with teardrop-shaped holes; beams end in matching connectors that hook in and lock without bolts. Because the hole pattern is a widely used, non-proprietary industry design, teardrop components are generally compatible with other teardrop rack already on your floor.

Beam height adjusts in 2-inch increments, so as box sizes and SKU mix change, bays can be reconfigured without re-drilling or re-bolting the frame.

Component What It Provides
Upright frames Teardrop-punched columns, 16-gauge (regular duty) or 14-gauge (heavy duty) roll-formed steel, powder-coated finish; color-coded green as standard
Beams Boxed step beams with teardrop connectors that lock into the upright without bolts; height-adjustable in 2-inch increments; color-coded orange as standard
Base plates Bolted steel base plate anchored to the slab with expansion anchors; seismic bracing and larger plates available where local code requires it
Decking Wire mesh decking (improves sprinkler penetration and light circulation) or steel pallet support bars for hand-stacked and undersized pallet loads
Row protection Row spacers and leveling shims to keep back-to-back rows square and plumb on uneven slabs
Impact protection Column protectors and end-of-aisle rack guards to absorb forklift contact before it reaches the frame
Compatibility Teardrop hole pattern is a non-proprietary industry design, so components are generally compatible with other teardrop-style racking already on your floor

Decking and support hardware are specified with the layout, not bolted on as an afterthought. Wire mesh decking improves sprinkler penetration and light circulation for code compliance in sprinklered buildings; pallet support bars work better for hand-stacked or undersized loads that would otherwise sag through open beam spans.

Safety, Anchoring & Accessories

A pallet rack layout is only as safe as its base plates, its protection hardware, and how often it gets inspected. These are the pieces we specify alongside the rack itself, not items you have to track down separately after the install.

Rack Inspections Are Not Optional

Bent beams, cracked welds, missing safety clips and out-of-plumb frames are real load-bearing hazards, not cosmetic issues. Damaged components should be reported and replaced promptly rather than left in service.

Pallet Rack for Direct-to-You Warehouses: FAQs

Do you really have pallet rack in stock in Salt Lake City?
Yes. Our most-requested regular-duty teardrop pallet rack in the standard orange-beam, green-upright configuration is stocked at our Salt Lake City location, available for local delivery around the Wasatch Front or for will-call pickup.
What is teardrop pallet rack, and why does it matter for a fulfillment warehouse?
Teardrop rack uses upright columns punched with teardrop-shaped holes and beams with matching connectors that lock in place without bolts. Beams adjust in 2-inch increments, so a direct-to-you shopping warehouse can reconfigure bay heights as SKU mix and box sizes change, without re-drilling or re-bolting the frame.
Selective, drive-in, or push-back — which rack type fits an e-commerce warehouse?
Most direct-to-consumer operations run selective rack because pick velocity and SKU count matter more than raw storage density — every pallet is reachable without moving another one first. Drive-in and push-back rack earn their keep for large single-SKU quantities or where floor space is the binding constraint; we will size the right mix once we know your SKU profile and building footprint.
What comes with the rack itself — do I need to source hardware separately?
A properly specified order includes base plates and anchors, row spacers and leveling shims, and wire decking or pallet support bars sized to your load. Column protectors, rack guards and safety netting are available as add-ons for aisles with heavier forklift traffic.
Can pallet rack be inspected and repaired instead of replaced?
Yes. Bent beams, damaged uprights, and missing safety clips should be flagged during routine rack inspections and repaired or replaced promptly — a damaged frame under load is a real safety hazard, not just a cosmetic issue.
Does the rack meet Utah seismic requirements?
Seismic bracing and base plate specifications depend on your building’s seismic design category and local building code, not on the rack alone. We can quote seismic-rated base plates and bracing for your layout, but the engineer of record for your building or your local building department has the final say on what your project requires.
How fast can I get rack once I order?
In-stock Salt Lake City inventory can move same day for will-call, or ship locally within the timeframe we confirm at order time. Custom heights, non-standard capacities, or larger quantities than we carry in stock run on a quoted lead time instead.
