Borroughs Clip Shelving for a Utah National Guard Facility

A general contractor turned to MH-USA for Borroughs clip shelving, including cage-enclosed units for accountable-property storage, at a Utah Army National Guard site at Camp Williams.

The Project

Jacobsen, a general contractor working on a facility build for the Utah Army National Guard at Camp Williams, Utah, brought MH-USA in to supply and coordinate delivery of Borroughs clip shelving for the site’s storage rooms. The scope covered multiple rooms across the facility, including a store room and a tools-and-parts room, and MH-USA handled freight for the shelving portion of the project.

Some of the shelving was installed inside secured, cage-enclosed areas rather than in open storage rooms — a common requirement on government and military sites where inventory needs both organized shelving and a controlled, accountable-property enclosure around it. MH-USA coordinated the shelving specification with the project’s architectural and mechanical drawings so the units fit the built rooms and the cage layouts without field modification.

Why Clip Shelving

Borroughs clip shelving is a bolted, adjustable steel shelving system that is common on government, defense and institutional projects because it is easy to reconfigure as room contents change, holds up under repeated reorganization, and is straightforward for a contractor to install on a fixed construction schedule.

For this project, that adjustability mattered across more than one type of space: a general unheated storage room, a dedicated tools-and-parts room, and shelving installed inside security cages for controlled, accountable-property storage. Rather than spec a different shelving system per room type, MH-USA specified Borroughs clip shelving throughout and adjusted configurations room by room to match each space’s use.

Working From the Project’s Own Drawings

Because this was new construction rather than a retrofit, the shelving scope had to match the architectural, mechanical and finish drawings the design team was already using for the building. MH-USA worked from those drawings so each room’s shelving matched the built dimensions and the cage enclosures specified for accountable-property areas, and coordinated freight for the shelving so it arrived on the contractor’s schedule.

This is the same process MH-USA follows on any general-contractor project: confirm the rooms and drawings first, specify shelving to match what is actually being built, and keep freight and delivery aligned with the broader construction schedule rather than shipping shelving before the space is ready for it.

What This Project Shows for Similar Government and Institutional Sites

  • One shelving system, multiple room types. Borroughs clip shelving’s adjustability let
    MH-USA cover an unheated store room, a tools-and-parts room and cage-enclosed accountable-property
areas with one consistent, reconfigurable product line instead of mixing systems.
  • Shelving inside a secured cage is a common government/defense pairing. A cage
controls who can access an area; the shelving inside it still needs to be organized and adjustable.
Specifying both together, rather than as separate afterthought purchases, keeps the finished room
    usable on day one.
  • Working from the contractor’s own drawings avoids field rework. On new
construction, matching shelving specs to the architectural and mechanical drawings already in use
by the general contractor’s team is what keeps the shelving installation from becoming a change
    order later.

Government & Defense Shelving FAQ

Does MH-USA supply shelving for government and military facility projects?
Yes. MH-USA works with general contractors on government, defense and institutional builds, including Borroughs clip shelving for storage rooms and cage-enclosed accountable-property areas. We do not publish facility layouts, security details or project values for these sites.
Can clip shelving be installed inside a security cage?
Yes, this is a common pairing on government and institutional projects. The cage controls physical access to the area; adjustable clip shelving inside it keeps the contents organized and lets the room be reconfigured later without replacing the shelving.
How does MH-USA handle shelving for new-construction projects versus retrofits?
For new construction, MH-USA works from the project’s own architectural and mechanical drawings so the shelving specification matches the rooms as they are actually being built, and coordinates freight and delivery with the contractor’s schedule. Retrofits instead start from a site visit or existing floor plan.
