What Is CSI MasterFormat Division 10 (Specialties)?

Division 10 is one of the 49 divisions in the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) MasterFormat®
numbering system — the standard architects, engineers, and contractors use to organize construction specifications and
bid documents in the United States. Division 10, titled “Specialties,” covers manufactured
interior and exterior building components that are not structural, mechanical, or electrical — things like signage,
partitions, toilet accessories, lockers, and storage assemblies.

Material Handling USA is not a general Division 10 manufacturer of every specialty product category. We focus on the
subset of Division 10 products that support how a facility stores, secures, and organizes materials and
people: storage assemblies, lockers, demountable wire partitions, security cages, and safety/queue-management
specialties. Several of these product lines already ship with MH-USA’s own CSI-formatted specification sections,
which architects and spec writers can drop directly into a project manual.

Division 10 line items show up on almost every commercial construction project, even when the general
contractor never uses the word “Division 10” out loud. A tenant improvement calling for employee
lockers in a break room, a distribution center spec asking for wire security cages around a will-call area, a
records room drawing that shows high-density mobile shelving, or a lobby fit-out that lists queue stanchions at
the front desk — all of it is Division 10. Architects and spec writers usually reference these items by
product type in the drawings and rely on the supplier to confirm the correct CSI section, load rating, and finish
during submittal review.

MH-USA works both sides of that process. During design development, we help architects and spec writers pick a
product family, capacity, and finish that will pass a bid comparison. During construction, we turn that spec into
a submittal package, a firm lead time, and an installed system — coordinating directly with the general
contractor’s schedule rather than leaving delivery and installation as an afterthought.

Why this matters for your project

If a bid package or spec section references Division 10, the storage, locker, partition, and security-cage line items usually fall under 10 50 00 (Storage Specialties) or 10 20 00 (Interior Specialties). MH-USA can supply product data, submittals, and in several cases full CSI-formatted spec sections for these line items so your project manual matches what actually gets installed.

Storage Specialties (CSI 10 50 00) — Lockers & Storage Assemblies

Storage Specialties is the largest Division 10 category MH-USA supplies into. It covers two distinct product
groups that show up constantly in commercial, industrial, institutional, and multifamily spec packages: lockers
(employee, tenant, and electronic package lockers) and storage assemblies (metal shelving systems, including
high-density mobile storage).

MH-USA publishes a working CSI 3-part specification for high-density mobile storage (Section 10 56 26) that
spec writers can drop directly into a project manual. It documents a mechanically assisted system rated for
roughly 4,000 lb per carriage at about 1 lb of operator effort, three selectable gear ratios, standard aisle
locks, Type 1045 steel rail rated to 1,000 lb per lineal foot, 5-inch cast-ductile-iron wheels, and (on the
electrically assisted version) a 1/8 HP 24 VDC drive with infrared safety sweeps and ADA-reach controls. Every
mobile shelving project also includes a free site survey, capacity evaluation, and CAD floor plan before order.

Interior Specialties (CSI 10 20 00) — Partitions & Security Enclosures

Under Interior Specialties, MH-USA supplies demountable wire mesh partitions and welded wire security cages —
non-structural interior enclosures used to secure inventory, equipment, IT rooms, and tenant storage without
building permanent walls. Both product lines ship in modular panels that meet standard ceiling heights and can be
reconfigured if a facility layout changes.

Wire partitions and security cages are two of the most-specified Division 10 items on warehouse and
distribution-center projects because they let a facility create a secure, code-compliant enclosure without
framing a permanent wall. Panels are modular — typically shipped in standard heights and bay widths and
bolted to a structural steel frame — so a facilities team can relocate or expand the enclosure later
without demolition. Both product lines are available with hinged or sliding doors, ceiling/top panels for
fully enclosed cages, and standard powder-coat colors to match a facility’s existing racking or safety scheme.

Safety Specialties (CSI 10 40 00) — Queue Management & Crowd Control

Safety Specialties covers life-safety and guidance equipment. MH-USA supplies Visiontron
crowd-control stanchions, retractable-belt posts, post-and-rope barriers, and queue signage — specified for
lobbies, checkpoints, distribution-center pedestrian aisles, and controlled-access points inside warehouses and
public buildings.

Queue-management and crowd-control equipment is easy to overlook in a Division 10 takeoff, but it appears on
almost every lobby, checkpoint, and controlled-access spec — from a corporate reception desk to a
distribution center’s visitor check-in. Visiontron’s stanchion and barrier lines cover post-and-rope, retractable
belt, and wall-mounted belt configurations in chrome, satin, and black finishes, plus sign-frame posts and
ColorCore engraved signage for wayfinding and safety messaging at the same install points.

Information Specialties (CSI 10 10 00 / 10 14 00) — Signage & Visual Display Surfaces

Information Specialties covers signage and visual display surfaces — facility wayfinding, branding
signage, and sliding or fixed whiteboard/dry-erase wall systems. MH-USA supplies these through Visiontron
(sign frames, ColorCore engraved signage, and branded queue signage) and Aurora Storage Products
(InterActivwall, a sliding whiteboard wall system for classrooms, training rooms, and offices).

Toilet, Bath & Laundry Accessories (CSI 10 28 00)

MH-USA’s online store stocks restroom and washroom dispensers and accessories — the commodity side of
Division 10 that facility managers reorder on a recurring basis alongside their storage and safety equipment.
These ship from the same account as your storage, locker, and security-cage order.

Spec Sheets, Submittals & Design Support

MH-USA writes and maintains CSI-formatted specification sections for several of its own Division 10 storage
products, so architects and spec writers can insert accurate, product-matched language instead of a generic
placeholder. Published sections include:

For product lines that don’t yet have a published CSI section (lockers, wire partitions, security cages,
Visiontron safety specialties), our design team will supply cut sheets, load data, and finish/color options
directly to your spec writer or GC on request.

Lead time varies by product family: boltless, rivet, and wire shelving are typically stocked or short-lead
items; high-density mobile shelving, wire partitions, and security cages are built to the dimensions in your
drawings, so lead time depends on carriage count, panel count, and finish. Ask for a firm lead time when you
request a quote — we’ll confirm it against your project schedule before you release the order.

Who Specifies Division 10 Products — and When

Division 10 line items typically enter a project at three different points, and MH-USA supports all three:

📝

Design Development

Architects and interior designers select a product family (locker type, shelving type, partition style) and set performance criteria — capacity, finish, fire rating where applicable — before the spec is written.

📋

Bidding & Submittals

Spec writers and GCs reference the CSI section number in the project manual; subcontractors and suppliers submit product data and shop drawings for approval before fabrication.

🏗️

Owner & Facilities Renovation

Facility managers and property owners specify Division 10 products directly for renovations, tenant improvements, and capacity expansions outside of a formal bid process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is pallet rack part of Division 10?
No. Pallet rack, cantilever rack, and other structural racking are typically classified under Division 05 (Metals) or specified as owner-furnished equipment, not Division 10. Division 10 covers non-structural specialty items like lockers, partitions, and storage assemblies. MH-USA supplies pallet rack too — see our pallet rack systems page.
Does MH-USA supply every Division 10 category?
No. We focus on the storage, locker, partition, security-cage, queue-management, signage/visual-display, and restroom-accessory categories listed above. We do not supply fireplaces, flagpoles, or exterior specialties.
Can you provide CSI 3-part specifications for a bid package?
Yes for the storage-assembly product lines listed in the Spec & Design Support section above — those ship as ready-to-use CSI sections. For lockers, wire partitions, security cages, and Visiontron products, our team will assemble product data and submittal packages to match your project manual format.
Do you work directly with architects and spec writers, or only end customers?
Both. We regularly support architects, spec writers, and general contractors during design development and bidding, and we also sell and install directly to facility owners and property managers after award.
Are these products available with a substitution request during bidding?
In most cases, yes. Provide the base-bid manufacturer and spec section, and our team will confirm whether our product meets or exceeds the specified performance criteria for a substitution request.

Need Division 10 Product Data or a Quote?

Send your spec section, drawings, or bid package and our team will match the product, provide submittals, and quote lead time.
