Penco Shelving Parts, Add-On Units & Locker Shelves
Most Penco calls we get are about a system that is already standing: one more section, extra shelves, missing clips, or new shelves for lockers. Here is what to know about each, based on Penco's published Clipper specification and storage products catalog. We also quote complete new Penco systems.
Clipper parts: posts, clips and bracing
Penco Clipper shelving is built from a short list of parts, which is why it is easy to repair or extend. Per Penco's Clipper specification:
- Box posts (3/4" x 2-7/16") usually sit at the front and offset angle posts (1-1/8" x 2-1/2") at the rear.
- The Clipper shelf clip is a one-piece 14-gauge, zinc-plated compression clip. Each shelf uses four, and the same clip fits every Clipper post and shelf.
- Sway braces are 12-gauge x 3/4" steel; closed units use 24-gauge side panels and backs instead.
- Shelves adjust on 1" centers, and 13-gauge foot plates protect floors.
Extra shelves and add-on accessories
Missing or extra shelves are the most common Penco parts order. Clipper Hi-Performance box-formed shelves come in 36", 42" and 48" widths and 12" to 36" depths, in medium, heavy and extra heavy duty. Conventional-flange 18-gauge shelves cover 24" to 48" widths and 9" to 36" depths.
Shelves are punched for accessories, so you can add shelf dividers (6" to 20" high in 24 gauge; 24" and taller in 20 gauge), sliding dividers, 1" to 3" bin fronts, label holders, 4-5/8" shelf boxes, base strips, and swinging or sliding doors.
Clipper Hi-Performance shelf capacities
Capacities are in pounds per shelf, evenly distributed, from Penco's catalog. Class 3 uses extra-heavy-duty shelves reinforced with side shelf supports and a center support, and must be assembled with nuts and bolts.

Add-on units: extend a row without starting over
Penco rows are ordered as a starter unit plus as many add-on units as you need. Add-ons share the posts of the unit beside them, so each extra section costs less and needs fewer parts. Standard Clipper units ship knocked down with clips, hardware and assembly instructions.
Before you order, measure the row you have. Because posts are shared, each section adds a little more than its nominal width. The growth chart below shows how a row grows.

RivetRite parts and add-ons
Penco's boltless RivetRite line works the same way. A starter comes with four angle posts. Each add-on brings two tee posts that the next section shares. Shelf levels adjust on 1-1/2" centers, and no special tools are needed.
Two details matter when you match parts. First, decking is bought separately, and Penco's listed capacity covers the steel structure only. Second, high-density units taller than 8' or deeper than 24" need front-to-back beams on both sides of each tee post. For more on boltless styles, see rivet shelving.
Penco locker shelves
Penco says extra steel shelves can be added to knocked-down lockers. Most lockers already have spare holes punched in the side panels for mounting, but some need holes drilled on site. Penco's QuickShip program also lists locker shelves for ADA applications in 12" x 12", 12" x 15", 12" x 18", 15" x 18" and 18" x 18" sizes, in gray (028) or champagne (073).

In Penco’s catalog, Clipper Hi-Performance shelves are rated at 475 to 850 lb per shelf in Class 1 heavy duty, 750 to 1,250 lb in Class 2 extra heavy duty, and 1,200 to 2,000 lb in reinforced Class 3. Penco Wide Span plywood beam pairs are rated at 1,350 to 2,500 lb per level depending on beam length. All ratings are for evenly distributed loads, so always confirm the exact size before you load it.
Penco sells through a network of dealers and sales representatives. Send us photos of the posts and shelves, the shelf width and depth, and any label or catalog number. We will identify the parts and quote them with freight. Common orders are Clipper shelf clips, extra shelves, sway braces, side or back panels, dividers, and complete add-on units.
Within the Clipper line, yes. Penco’s specification calls for one clip that fits both box posts and offset angle posts and every Clipper shelf, with four clips per shelf. Clipper clips are not designed for other brands’ posts, so match the brand before you order.
Usually. Penco notes that extra steel shelves can be added to knocked-down lockers, and most lockers already have spare mounting holes in the side panels. Some need holes drilled on site. Send the locker line, inside width and depth, color and a photo so the shelf matches.
Order add-on units, not starters. An add-on shares the end posts of the unit beside it, so you get more sections from fewer parts. Measure your current row first, because shared posts make each section a little wider than its nominal size. Penco’s growth chart shows the row length for 1 to 20 sections.
