Lab Casework and Benches, Delivered and Installed in Utah

Buying laboratory furniture in Utah is not the same problem as buying it out of a catalog. A bench run has to fit a wall framed a half inch out. A sink base has to land where the plumbing actually stubbed up. Tall storage gets anchored because we build on the Wasatch Front. And when a countertop arrives dented two weeks before the lab must be operational, somebody has to be here.
Material Handling USA has been solving that from Salt Lake City since 1997. We supply stainless lab casework, benches and workstations, countertops, lab sinks, wall shelving and cleanroom furniture to Utah laboratories, and we handle the parts that go wrong: the field measure, the freight, install day, the punch list and the warranty call.

The Utah Labs We Outfit
Utah’s lab economy is broad for a state this size, and each segment buys differently.
- University and research labs: teaching labs and core facilities in Salt Lake City, Provo, Logan and Ogden, specified through an architect and built to survive student use.
- Hospital, clinical and pathology labs: Wasatch Front core labs where cleanability, drawer-heavy storage and instrument bench height drive the layout.
- Environmental and water-quality labs: water, soil and air labs needing chemically appropriate surfaces, deep service sinks and glassware drying capacity.
- Cannabis and food-testing labs: analytical labs in West Valley City, Ogden and Utah County where stainless casework is the practical default.
- Life-science and diagnostics manufacturers: the Lehi/Silicon Slopes corridor plus Sandy and Salt Lake City — production-adjacent labs, gowning rooms and controlled-environment benches.
- Mining and metallurgical assay labs: assay and sample-prep labs where heavy-duty benches and abuse-tolerant storage matter more than looks.
- School and technical college labs: Davis, Weber, Jordan, Alpine and Washington County programs that install in a summer window and cannot slip.

Lab Casework in Utah: How to Specify It
Casework is the expensive, permanent part of the room. Three decisions determine whether a Utah lab casework package works.
Height first. Standing-height base cabinets are 35 inches high; sitting-height runs lower for microscope and data-entry work. Mixed labs need both, and the boundary should follow the task, not a symmetrical elevation.
Then the interior. Drawer banks, door bases, sink bases and open knee-space bases are not interchangeable. Standing height bases come in full-length single-bank drawer configurations — a five-drawer unit with 6-inch drawers and a removable back, for example — and sink bases use hinged doors with a partial-height back panel so plumbing has room. Most labs over-buy doors and under-buy drawers.
Then the fillers. Toe scribes, rear filler panels and corner fillers are what let a factory-dimensioned run meet a job-site wall. Skipping them is why installs end in caulk and apologies.

Eagle MHC manufactures a broad stainless inset casework line covering pharmaceutical, vivarium, pathology, cannabis, test lab and cleanroom work. We represent Eagle Group and quote it for Utah labs alongside the countertops, sinks and shelving that finish the room.
Full product-line detail lives on our laboratory casework page; this page stays on the Utah delivery, install and service side.
One Utah note: many older Wasatch Front lab buildings have slabs that are not flat by modern tolerance, so leveling provisions stop being an accessory. We check floor level during the site survey.

Lab Benches and Workstations for Utah Labs
Not every Utah lab needs fixed casework. Many benches we deliver in Salt Lake City, Lehi and Ogden are adjustable stainless workstations, because the instrument mix changes faster than the building does.
Adjustable work surface systems use numbered posts in 1-inch increments so surfaces and shelves reset as the work changes: 34.5-inch working height, solid or perforated stainless tops with a hat channel for strength, and cantilevered or wire overshelves on the rear posts. Bases come in H-frame or C-frame configurations with or without a wire undershelf.

- Instrument benches: deep, rigid and sized for the instrument plus service access behind it.
- Prep and staging benches: mobile where possible — a bench on casters is worth two fixed ones.
- Sit-down stations: lower height for microscopy and data entry, with real knee space.
- Wall-mounted tables: for narrow Utah lab rooms where floor legs kill circulation.
- Overshelving: reagents off the work surface without eating bench depth.

Product-level detail lives on our lab benches and workstations page.
Countertops, Sinks and Work Surfaces

Work surfaces are where a Utah lab project most often gets re-quoted: the surface has to match the chemistry, the cleaning protocol and the plumbing at once.
Stainless countertops are fabricated in 16 or 14 gauge type 304 or 316 stainless, with other gauges available for chemically demanding labs. Surfaces and bowls have coved sanitary corners; front edges are square or box marine unless specified. Maximum length without a seam is 144 inches with no end splash, reduced by 5.5 inches per end splash — worth knowing before you draw a 14-foot run.
Laboratory service sinks are 14 gauge type 304 stainless with welded polished bowls, radius corners, an 8-inch backsplash and stainless legs and feet, in one to three compartments with or without integral sloped drainboards.

Sizing and material comparison detail is on our lab countertops and work surfaces page. If your lab also needs fume extraction over a bench, start with fume hoods, then let the hood dimensions set the casework run — never the other way round.

Seismic Anchoring and Utah Install Realities

Utah installs carry two constraints a national online seller will never mention. The first is seismic: the Wasatch Fault runs the length of our population corridor, and Utah jurisdictions treat tall casework, uppers and wall shelving as items attached to structure. Units need anchor provisions, someone has to know what is behind the wall finish, and weights belong in the submittal package. We do not certify seismic compliance or sign anchorage calculations — your engineer of record does — but we supply the documentation, hardware provisions and a crew that anchors uppers before anything is loaded.
The second constraint is the building. Older Salt Lake City and Ogden lab buildings have freight elevators with real size limits, doors that are not docks, and floors out of level. A 12-foot countertop that cannot make the elevator corner is a fabrication decision, not a delivery problem — so we measure the path, not just the room.
What our Utah site survey covers
Wall-to-wall dimensions and squareness, floor level, service stub locations, door and elevator path, dock access, anchor substrate behind finishes, and the trades schedule you are landing inside. About an hour, and the cheapest hour on the project.

Delivery, Installation and Lead Times From Salt Lake City
- Salt Lake City, West Valley City, Sandy and Murray: local truck with inside placement, usually same week.
- Provo, Orem, Lehi and Draper: scheduled runs timed around Silicon Slopes production windows.
- Ogden, Layton and Weber County: weekly runs from the SLC warehouse.
- Logan and Cache Valley: scheduled runs with winter float for Sardine Canyon.
- St. George and Washington County: consolidated southern runs or LTL with liftgate, quoted up front.
- Install and freight: casework sequenced behind the plumber and electrician; freight inspected in Salt Lake City first.
| Item group | Typical release timing | Utah note |
|---|---|---|
| Stainless benches, work tables, wire and stainless shelving | In stock to a few weeks | Usually the easiest items to expedite locally |
| Standard stainless casework (base, wall, tall) | Several weeks | Freeze wall dimensions before release |
| Sink bases and lab service sinks | Several weeks | Field-verify plumbing stubs first |
| Fabricated countertops and integral bowls | Drawing-dependent | 144-inch seam limit drives layout |
| Gowning benches and cleanroom tables | Short lead | Order with casework to consolidate freight |
| Modified or custom casework | As early as drawings exist | The critical path on most Utah lab jobs |

Why a Local Utah Supplier Beats an Online-Only Order
The purchase price is the small number. The expensive numbers are the ones nobody quotes: the re-measure, the return freight, the week the lab could not open, the change order for a bench that did not fit.
| Project stage | National online-only seller | MH-USA in Salt Lake City |
|---|---|---|
| Before the order | You measure and you own the error | We field-measure and verify the delivery path |
| Freight and install | Curbside drop, no install | Inside delivery, crew on site, sequenced to your trades |
| Damaged part | Claim ticket and wait | We replace it and keep the schedule |
| Punch list | Email thread | Walked in person |
| Warranty in year two | Reseller may not exist | Same Salt Lake City number: 801-328-8788 |
