Foodservice Equipment for the Denver Metro and the Front Range

The Front Range is not one kitchen market — it is six stacked along ninety miles of I-25. RiNo turns former warehouses into breweries and chef-driven rooms with no dock. LoDo and Union Station, Larimer Square, South Broadway and Cherry Creek North run high-rent, small-footprint back-of-house. Past that sit Denver International Airport concession build-outs, Ball Arena, Empower Field at Mile High and the Colorado Convention Center, then the institutional volume: University of Colorado Boulder, Denver and the Anschutz Medical Campus, Colorado State in Fort Collins, Denver Public Schools, Jeffco and Cherry Creek district kitchens, and the UCHealth and Centura/CommonSpirit hospital systems.
Material Handling USA equips those kitchens from Salt Lake City. We are not a Colorado storefront — no Denver office or showroom — and being straight about that matters more than a pin on a map. We ship and coordinate installs into this market, and have done it across the Intermountain West since 1997. We represent Eagle Group, a broadline stainless manufacturer with more than 17,000 standard models plus SpecFAB custom fabrication, so a Denver kitchen goes on one schedule, one submittal and one coordinated shipment — with factory-direct Eagle freight when that beats routing through Utah.
Product detail lives on our commercial foodservice equipment hub. This page covers what changes when the kitchen is in Colorado: freight, altitude, winter delivery windows, multi-unit rollouts and how Front Range plan review runs.
Who We Typically Equip in Colorado
Six buyer types account for most Front Range equipment we quote, each on a different clock.
Denver Restaurant & Brewery GroupsRiNo, LoDo, Larimer Square, South Broadway, Cherry Creek and Tennyson — plus Colorado brewery and distillery taprooms. See restaurant & QSR equipment.
Denver Public Schools, Jeffco & Cherry CreekServing lines, hot food tables, tray systems and dish rooms installed inside the summer window. See K-12 school kitchen equipment.
CU and CSU Campus DiningCU Boulder, CU Denver’s Auraria campus, Anschutz in Aurora and Colorado State in Fort Collins, on academic calendars. See university campus dining equipment.
UCHealth, Centura and Senior LivingTray line equipment and heated transport cabinets moving meals to floor pantries at Front Range hospital campuses and senior living in Aurora and Littleton — 365 days, no shutdown week.
Stadiums, Arenas and DIA ConcessionsBall Arena, Empower Field, Coors Field, the Colorado Convention Center and DIA concessions: countertop warming, transport and portable gear built for event days. See stadium & arena concessions equipment.
Boulder Natural-Foods Makers & Northern Colorado ProcessorsBoulder and Longmont natural-foods makers, Weld County protein processing and I-25 c-store foodservice — tables, sinks, shelving and dunnage on the production side.Freight and Installation Into Denver: How It Actually Runs

Denver is about 520 to 550 road miles from our Salt Lake City building. Most Colorado freight runs I-80 east through Wyoming to I-25 south — flatter and more reliable — while I-70 through Glenwood Canyon and the Eisenhower Tunnel is shorter but far more exposed to closures, grades and chain law. Truckload is a next-day or two-day run; LTL adds a few days for sort and appointment.
For larger packages — a full serving line, a district multi-site order, a hood package — we often ship factory-direct from Eagle Group instead of staging through Utah. It removes a handling stop and lands sooner on a Denver jobsite, but that load moves on the plant’s release date, so it has to be locked earlier.
Before we quote freight to a Front Range address we ask: dock or liftgate; alley, permitted street or restricted downtown access; stairs or grade; the narrowest door; and who receives it. In RiNo and LoDo the answer is usually liftgate, alley and a tight interior turn.
Receiving is the step Denver projects underestimate
A downtown Denver tenant improvement often has no on-site staff during the delivery window, no dock and metered frontage. Decide early whether equipment goes to the jobsite, the GC’s yard, or a metro warehouse for staged release — and tell us before we book the truck. Re-delivery is the most avoidable cost on a Front Range job.
Altitude, Winter Windows and the I-70 Resort Corridor
Colorado adds two variables most markets do not have: elevation and a mountain highway that closes. Denver sits at 5,280 feet; Vail, Breckenridge, Aspen and Steamboat kitchens run between roughly 6,900 and 9,600. Gas-fired countertop equipment needs altitude configuration confirmed with the factory at order — not diagnosed by an installer already on the mountain.
| Window | Who it affects | What happens | When to order |
|---|---|---|---|
| Summer shutdown (June–early Aug) | Denver Public Schools, Jeffco, Cherry Creek, Aurora, Douglas County | No students in the building; demo, install and serving line work compress into about eight weeks | Serving lines and hoods in winter; tables, sinks and shelving by late spring |
| Mountain shoulder (May–Oct) | Vail, Breckenridge, Keystone, Aspen, Steamboat, Winter Park | The realistic install season up I-70 and over Rabbit Ears; winter chain law and closures make delivery unreliable | Late winter, for a spring or summer install |
| Academic year (Aug–May) | CU Boulder, CU Denver/Auraria, Anschutz, Colorado State, Mines | Residence dining and athletics concessions run continuously | Spring, for a summer install between commencement and move-in |
| Event calendar (year-round) | Ball Arena, Empower Field, Coors Field, Convention Center, DIA | Work happens in narrow dark periods between events; portable gear is replaced continuously | Against the venue’s dark-period calendar, with spares |
| Buildout cycle (year-round) | RiNo, LoDo, Cherry Creek, South Broadway, suburban pads | TIs sequenced to a landlord delivery date; equipment lands after MEP rough-in | As soon as the schedule is fixed — often the longest lead item |

Resort foodservice is its own discipline. An on-mountain outlet at Vail or Breckenridge triples volume overnight, has restricted vehicle access and finishes service far from the central kitchen — so heated transport cabinets, banquet carts, pan racks and portable bars lead the list. We spec that gear for a full season, with duplicates, because a February replacement has to make it up I-70.
The same logic applies at Ball Arena and Empower Field: concession gear that runs a full Nuggets, Avalanche and summer concert calendar is bought for cycle life, not opening week.
Multi-Unit Rollouts Across the Metro

Denver is a rollout market. Concepts that prove out on Tennyson Street or in RiNo open next in Aurora, Lakewood, Littleton and Centennial, then jump to Boulder, Fort Collins, Greeley and Colorado Springs. The failure mode is predictable: each store is re-specified by whoever is free that month, and by store five the tables, hand sink placement and dish table handing all differ — breaking training, ordering and replacement parts.
We handle it as one standardized schedule with per-store release dates: model numbers fixed once, drawings reused, only field-measured exceptions changing per address. A Colorado Springs store released three months after Lakewood still arrives identical.
For groups running a commissary or central prep, the back-of-house side — shelving, dunnage, transport racks and bulk storage — usually needs sizing before the stores do. See food service material handling solutions.
Plan Review and Inspections on the Front Range — Factually

Colorado retail food establishments are reviewed and inspected by local public health agencies, and the Front Range has a lot of them. Denver’s Department of Public Health & Environment handles the City and County of Denver; the successor agencies to Tri-County Health in Adams, Arapahoe and Douglas counties plus Jefferson, Boulder, Larimer, Weld and El Paso each run their own review, fees and timeline. Building and mechanical permits run separately, and a hood pulls its own mechanical permit and inspection.
We do not interpret code and do not guarantee that any piece of equipment will satisfy a given inspector or jurisdiction. We supply what the process asks for: model numbers, spec sheets, dimensioned drawings, CAD and Revit files where they exist, and written confirmation of each model’s third-party sanitation listing status. Those listings are model-specific, so we confirm item by item instead of making a blanket claim.
Front Range review comments repeat themselves: hand sink count and placement, a mop basin outside the food zone, drainboard length, indirect drainage at the dish machine, and hood coverage at the ends of the cook line. All cheap to fix on the drawing, expensive after fabrication.
