About Lyon Metal Lockers
Lyon lockers come from Lyon Workspace Products of Montgomery, Illinois, which has made steel storage since 1901. Lyon builds lockers, cabinets, shelving and rack in the USA, and its locker line runs from basic one-wide school lockers to clear-front ClearSight box lockers, 16-person LockeRack systems, antimicrobial healthcare lockers and military TA-50 gear lockers. Lyon steel lockers carry a one-year warranty.
Lyon’s standard lockers share one recipe: one-piece 16-gauge doors on a welded 16-gauge door frame, a 24-gauge body, stainless steel recessed handles on single-, double- and triple-tier doors, and a lockbar that latches at three points on single-tier doors. Two colors — Dove Gray and Putty — are the stock finishes.
This page explains the Lyon lines we sell, their published specifications and sizes, and how they compare with Tennsco lockers. It is part of our employee lockers guide.

Reading Lyon sizes. Lyon names lockers by overall width, depth and height. A 66″ locker is a 60″ body on 6″ legs; a 78″ locker is a 72″ body on legs. The rear legs adjust for leveling on uneven floors. Depth is the number most people get wrong: 12″ deep suits backpacks and small items, 15″ fits most coats, and 18″ is the usual choice for winter jackets, hard hats and gear.
Box locker heights. Four-tier lockers stand 54″, five-tier 66″ and six-tier 78″. The four-tier height keeps every door within easy reach, which is why it is popular in offices and break rooms.
How Lyon Lockers Are Built
Lyon publishes full specifications for its standard lockers. The points that matter when you compare brands or write a bid:
| Component | Lyon standard locker (published spec) |
|---|---|
| Doors | One-piece 16-gauge steel on single, double and triple tier; box-locker doors up to 15″ × 15″ are 18-gauge |
| Door frame | 16-gauge formed steel channels with a continuous full-height door strike; corners lapped and welded |
| Body | 24-gauge steel, flanged for double thickness at the back vertical corners |
| Latching | Lockbar with nano-roller latch fingers engaging 12-gauge jambs: three latch points on single tier, two on double and triple tier |
| Handles | Stainless steel recessed handle with padlock hasp on single, double and triple tier; pull handle with padlock loop on box lockers |
| Hinges | At least 2″ high, .050″ steel, five-knuckle full-loop hinges |
| Noise | Nylon lockbar guides and soft rubber bumpers at the jambs |
| Humid areas | Galvannealed steel available on request |
The handle and latch. Lyon forms its recessed handle pocket from one piece, removing the seams that make formed handles a weak point, and lets the padlock sit inside the door face. The lockbar’s roller fingers engage heavy 12-gauge jambs, so the door cannot be pried free of the lock. For built-in locks, Lyon offers a Zephyr built-in combination lock or a built-in flat key lock with two keys.
Assembled or unassembled. Unassembled lockers bolt together in the field, with door and frame already joined. Assembled lockers are put together at the factory with pop rivets instead of nuts and bolts for a tighter, sturdier unit — the better choice for a full locker room on a schedule.

Ventilation. Lyon stamps louvers into every door: six louvers at the top and bottom of most single- and double-tier doors, and three or four per door on box lockers depending on width. Where airflow really matters — damp uniforms, gym gear, turnout clothing — ask about perforated gear lockers instead.
When standard is not enough. Lyon’s All-Welded Extreme lockers weld every seam and step up to 14-gauge doors, a 16-gauge body, 18-gauge backs and a full-height continuous hinge. We quote these per order for plants, schools and public-safety buildings; see heavy-duty lockers and warehouse and industrial lockers for when they are worth it.
Specialty Lyon Lockers: Gear and Phone Storage
TA-50 military gear locker. A wide, two-door gear locker with perforated doors, a coat rod and hooks and a three-point latching system, sized for a soldier’s issued TA-50 equipment. It also suits police and fire stations that need one big ventilated cabinet per person. See police and fire station lockers and readiness center storage.

Cell phone locker with USB charging. A wall-mounted 14-door locker in Monorail Gray that charges phones while they are locked away — a practical fit for phone-free production floors, secure areas and classrooms. Mount it at the entry next to a bank of box lockers for larger personal items.
Both specialty lockers are listed in our Lyon locker shop with current prices. If you need several gear lockers in a row, send the room dimensions so we can confirm door swing, aisle width and anchoring before you order.
Lyon Locker Accessories
Lyon sells the parts that finish a locker run, and we list them online:
- Slope top kits in one-wide and three-wide sizes from 12″ × 12″ to 18″ × 21″, so nothing gets stored (or forgotten) on top.
- Closed front and end bases for lockers with legs, in 12″, 15″ and 18″ widths and 12–21″ depths.
- Anchoring angles for lockers without legs and foot anchors for lockers with legs.
- Built-in key and combination locks, number plates and touch-up paint.
- Locker room benches in hardwood or aluminum, including ADA benches with backs.

Bases and anchoring. A closed base hides the space under lockers on legs, so it cannot collect trash, and gives the run a built-in look. Lyon recommends anchoring all lockers to the floor or wall to prevent tipping; we include anchoring in every installation we quote.
Browse all of these in the Lyon locker shop, see our locker accessories guide, or let us list them on your quote so every top, base and anchor matches your exact locker sizes.
