Who Metro Is
Metro is the brand of InterMetro Industries, founded in 1929 and headquartered in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. Metro built the original Super Erecta wire shelving system — the four-post, tool-free, one-inch-adjustable design most people picture when they say “wire shelving” — and grew it into a catalog of more than 30,000 products.
MH-USA represents Metro. We configure units, confirm finishes and load ratings, quote seismic hardware when drawings call for it, and handle freight from Salt Lake City — for kitchens, hospitals, labs, cleanrooms, warehouses and grocery back rooms since 1997.

Which Metro System Is Right for You?
Metro splits into six practical families. Match the room and the task first; the model number is the easy part.

Shelving: wire, polymer or basket
Wire is the default for airflow, sight lines and cost per shelf. Polymer wins once water, acid or a cart-wash cycle is involved, because the mats lift out and get washed. Basket shelving answers picking problems — staff should see the item, not dig for it.
Two questions decide most of it: does anything get hosed down here, and how often will shelf heights change? “Yes” points at MetroMax; “weekly” points at Super Adjustable or MetroMax Q.
Wall systems, cantilever workstations and high-density
SmartWall and SmartLever recover the space above a prep table or pack bench with shelves, holders and adjustable work surfaces. When the floor is the constraint, high-density qwikTRAK floor track and Top-Track overhead track put shelving on rails so aisles collapse.
Seismic hardware belongs in the same conversation: SiteSelect posts, base plates, post clamps, foot plates and sway brace kits, which much of the Mountain West needs.
Carts: utility, transport, medical and lab
Cart lines run from myCart polymer carts through Super Erecta and MetroMax transport, exchange and par-level carts to Flexline and Starsys clinical carts and stainless lab carts. Ask: what does it carry, what door does it pass, what cleans it, does it lock?
Stainless fabricated products — TableWorx tables, PrepMate stations, gowning benches — cover what shelving cannot.
Holding, proofing and food transport
C5 covers heated holding, proofing and heated or non-powered transport cabinets in half, three-quarter, five-sixths and full heights. HotBlox handles countertop, undercounter and mobile pan holding, and Mightylite carriers move pans without power. Size by pan count per service and the narrowest door on the route.
Finish and Material Chooser
Finish is where shelving orders go wrong, and the mistake takes a year to show up. Pick it from the room, not the price line.

If a room is hosed down, sanitized or held near freezing with condensation, go polymer or stainless; epoxy is the middle ground for cooler storage. Mixing is fine — chrome in the stockroom, epoxy in the walk-in, stainless in the cart wash, one order, one parts platform.
Capacity matters as much as material. Published shelf ratings assume evenly distributed static loads, post assemblies carry a lower total rating, and mobile units de-rate. Send size, finish, shelf count and mobility and we confirm capacity in writing.
