Mobile prep tables solve the reconfiguration problem in small Salt Lake City kitchens

Material Handling USA has been supplying commercial kitchen equipment from Salt Lake City since 1997. Our warehouse and our people are here, in the valley, which changes what a stainless order actually looks like: a chef in Sugar House can get a replacement three-compartment sink the same week rather than waiting on a cross-country LTL lane, and a general contractor working a Main Street build-out can get a driver on the phone about an alley delivery window instead of a national call center.

We represent Eagle Group, the Clayton, Delaware stainless manufacturer founded in 1947 with more than 17,000 standard models, plus its SpecFAB custom fabrication division, Panco transport line, Spec-Bar underbar, Spec-Air ventilation hoods, RedHots countertop line and Blendport value line. That breadth matters locally because a single Salt Lake City restaurant, school kitchen or hotel pantry can be quoted, submitted, freighted and delivered as one package instead of six.

Where We Deliver Around the Salt Lake Valley

Every part of this city presents a different equipment problem, and not knowing which one you are in is how a delivery goes sideways.

Area What we typically deliver The local constraint

9th & 9th, Sugar House, Central Ninth, 15th & 15th Worktables, hand sinks, three-compartment sinks, shelving, utility carts Small footprints, street parking, stair carries into older storefronts
Granary District & the I-15 / I-215 industrial corridor Dunnage racks, bulk shelving, heavy-gauge tables, wash-down layouts Larger loads and roll-up doors, but active construction detours
University of Utah campus, hospital & Research Park Serving lines, tray dispensers, heated cabinets, dish room packages East bench grades, campus access permits, summer-only shutdown windows

Delivery and Installation Logistics in Salt Lake City

Salt Lake City’s wide grid fools people into assuming deliveries are easy here. Downtown, the reality behind the storefront is a 1920s brick building with a shared alley, a 30-inch back door and a basement stair. Add a Delta Center game, a Salt Palace convention move-in and near-continuous downtown construction, and a two-hour delivery becomes a five-hour one if nobody planned it.

  • Same-week valley delivery on stock stainless from our Salt Lake City warehouse — sinks, tables, shelving, dunnage, carts and racks.
  • Liftgate and curb-side planning for downtown, 9th & 9th and Sugar House addresses with no dock.
  • Elevator and stair carries measured in advance: we ask for door width, turn radius, elevator car depth and stair count before dispatch.
  • Knock-down and sectioned assemblies when a welded table or dishtable will not make the corner in a historic building.
  • Delivery windows around events — arena nights, convention move-ins, Conference weekends and downtown road closures.
  • Winter inversion and canyon weather planning for Park City, Ogden and mountain-resort deliveries staged out of Salt Lake City.
  • Freight to the rest of the Intermountain West — Provo, Ogden, Logan, St. George, Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and western Colorado — quoted with every order.

Factory-built items are a different clock. Fabricated counters, serving lines and hoods run on a production lead time, and along the Wasatch Front those weeks matter most in spring and summer when every restaurant, school and campus project wants the same install window. We would rather stage equipment at our warehouse for two weeks than park pallets in a space with open ceilings and drywall dust.

How a Salt Lake City Restaurant Build-Out Actually Runs

Local build-outs follow a rhythm worth naming, because equipment is usually ordered at the wrong point in it. An operator signs a lease downtown or in Sugar House, hires an architect and often a kitchen consultant, and submits for plan review with the city and the county health department. Rough-in follows, then finishes, then final inspections. Order equipment after rough-in and the fabricated pieces arrive late; order too early and pallets sit in a dusty shell.

Dishtables get field-verified against the machine before fabrication on Salt Lake City projects

The useful sequence: quote the schedule early so lead times are known, lock the fabricated items (hoods, counters, serving lines) first because they set the critical path, and stage stock stainless for delivery after the floor is sealed. In a historic downtown space, field-verify door, stair and elevator dimensions before anything is welded — that is the most common reason a Salt Lake City delivery gets rescheduled.

We provide CAD drawings and Revit families for the models on your schedule so your architect or consultant can drop them into the set, and we flag conflicts we see — a dishtable that lands short of the machine, an undershelf that blocks a cart path, a hand sink specified where the plumbing wall isn’t.

Plan Review, Health Inspections and Documentation

In Salt Lake City, foodservice projects generally pass through city building and plumbing permitting and a Salt Lake County Health Department plan review, with a pre-opening walkthrough before the doors open. Inspectors look at the installed condition: how equipment is sealed to walls and floors, where hand sinks landed, how warewashing and food-contact surfaces are finished, and whether documentation matches what was installed.

What we can and cannot promise

We do not guarantee code compliance or inspection outcomes — those depend on installation, plumbing, ventilation and final use, and they are the authority’s call. What we do supply is documentation: model numbers, spec sheets, drawings and CAD/Revit files for your submittal, and written confirmation of which third-party sanitation listings apply to the specific models you are buying. Listings are model-specific rather than line-wide, so we confirm each item in writing rather than making blanket claims.

Two categories get under-ordered on almost every Salt Lake City project: storage — dunnage racks and shelving in a small downtown basement decide whether a delivery day is manageable — and transport, carts and pan racks pushed across an uneven historic floor into a walk-in twenty times a day.

Both are the first things a chef complains about six months in.

Salt Lake City Commercial Kitchen Equipment FAQ

Do you stock commercial kitchen equipment in Salt Lake City?
We keep fast-moving stainless — worktables, hand sinks, compartment sinks, dunnage racks, shelving, utility carts and pan racks — moving through our Salt Lake City warehouse, and in most cases we deliver common items in the valley the same week. Special-order items such as serving lines, Spec-Bar underbar, Spec-Air hoods and SpecFAB counters ship from the factory on a lead time we confirm in writing.
How do you handle deliveries to downtown Salt Lake City restaurants with no loading dock?
Most of Main Street restaurant row, Regent Street, Central Ninth and the Granary District have alley access or a metered curb rather than a dock. We plan for it: liftgate delivery, a window that avoids the lunch rush and Delta Center event traffic, and a hand or stair carry into the space. Tell us door width, elevator car size and stair count, and we size the equipment and crew before dispatch.
Can equipment fit a historic building in Sugar House or on Main Street?
Often only if it is modified. Older Salt Lake City buildings have narrow stairs, sub-32-inch doorways, low basement ceilings and floors that are anything but level. Eagle’s SpecFAB division builds knock-down and modified units — shortened tables, split dishtables, relocated sink bowls — so an assembly that cannot make the corner goes in as sections.
What are typical lead times for a Salt Lake City kitchen build-out?
Stock stainless is usually days. Catalog specials and configured items commonly run several weeks, and fully fabricated counters, hoods and serving lines run longer, especially around the spring and summer construction push along the Wasatch Front. Because Salt Lake City build-outs frequently slip on drywall and mechanical inspections, we schedule equipment to land after the floor is sealed rather than parking pallets in the space for a month.
Will my equipment pass a Salt Lake County Health Department inspection?
We cannot promise an inspection result — that is the health department’s call and it depends on installation, plumbing, ventilation and how the space is finally used. What we can do is provide model numbers, spec sheets and drawings for the plan review submittal, confirm in writing which third-party sanitation listings apply to the specific models you are buying (listings are model-specific, not line-wide), and supply the documentation your plan reviewer, contractor and kitchen consultant ask for.
Do you serve areas outside the Salt Lake Valley?
Yes. From Salt Lake City we regularly run equipment north to Ogden and Logan, south through Utah County to Provo and down to St. George, east to Park City resort kitchens and out to the Uinta Basin, and across the Intermountain West into Idaho, Wyoming, Nevada and western Colorado. See our Utah commercial kitchen equipment page for statewide coverage. We also ship nationwide.
Can you work with our kitchen consultant or general contractor?
That is most of what we do on Salt Lake City projects: take the schedule off the drawings, quote it line by line, flag dimensional conflicts before fabrication, provide CAD and Revit files, and coordinate a delivery date with the GC.
What kinds of Salt Lake City operations do you typically equip?
Independent restaurants and bars downtown, in 9th & 9th, Sugar House and Central Ninth; hotel and banquet kitchens near City Creek, The Gateway and the Salt Palace; campus dining and hospital foodservice at the University of Utah; Salt Lake City School District kitchens; concessionaires at Salt Lake City International; arena and event concessions; valley senior living; and producers in the Granary District.
