Times-2 Speed Files and Rotary Storage Cabinets
Aurora Times-2 dual-sided rotary cabinets store the equivalent of three lateral files in a single unit — files, binders, supplies, media, records or secured items, reachable from both sides without walking around the cabinet. Ten heights, two widths, and interiors configured to what you actually store.

What Are Times-2 Speed Files?
Times-2 Speed Files are dual-sided rotary storage cabinets built by Aurora Storage Products. A standard lateral cabinet gives you one face and wastes the depth behind the drawer front. A Times-2 puts a rotating inner shell inside a fixed outer shell, so both sides of the interior are stored and both are reached from one position in the room.
Aurora’s published space figure is that one Times-2 unit stores the equivalent of three lateral files — which is why the line shows up wherever a file room, records area or supply closet has run out of wall.
It is also not just a filing cabinet. The same shell holds binders, books, tablets and notebooks, departmental supplies, media, medical records, personal items, garments and — with the right brackets — weapons, because the interior is assembled from shelves, drawers, dividers and frames rather than fixed at the factory.

How a Times-2 Rotary Cabinet Works
- The outer shell stays fixed in place on the floor.
- The inner storage shell rotates on a central axis, so the far side of the cabinet comes to you.
- Both sides of the inner shell are usable storage, reached from a single standing position.
- Operation is by foot pedal or hand release, depending on how the unit is ordered.
- Locking compartments, security drawers and keypad access are available on the same cabinet.
Two engineering details worth knowing
Positive Position Control. Every Times-2 gives a controlled, positive stop every quarter turn rather than free-spinning. Aurora built this in specifically to prevent the rotational momentum you get on free-spinning push-model imitations — it matters most when the cabinet is heavily loaded and someone gives it a shove.
Columnar Support. A base reinforcement that distributes weight evenly, so a cabinet loaded heavily on one side and lightly on the other still turns quietly and smoothly. The base itself is assembled and lubricated for life at the factory, which is also why installation is clean.

Why Choose a Rotary File Cabinet?
Three lateral files in one footprint
Aurora’s published comparison: a single Times-2 unit stores the equivalent of three lateral files, because both sides of the full cabinet depth are used.
No drawer pull-out clearance
Nothing swings into the aisle, so cabinets can be placed in corridors and tight rooms where a lateral file would block traffic.
Access from one position
Rotate the shell instead of walking around the cabinet or opening four drawers to find a folder.
Genuinely reconfigurable
Shelves, drawers, dividers and frames come out and go back in. Aurora’s roll-out drawer alone configures eight ways with eleven options.
Mixed open and secured storage
Compartmentalized locking storage, security drawers and keypad access on the same unit.
Works as a room divider
Because both sides are usable, a run of Times-2 can define a space instead of being pushed against a wall.
Sizes and Specifications
Times-2 comes in ten heights and two widths — letter and legal/A4. Standard units are specified by tier count; Plus-Size units are slightly taller for applications that fall outside the standard range.

Measure the doorway, not just the room
The taller tier counts are the ones that recover the most floor space, but they also have to get into the room and clear ceiling grid, sprinkler heads and light fixtures. We check those on the layout before quoting so nothing arrives that cannot be stood up.
Times-2 Model Lines
Interconnect is the answer for the awkward spots in an office: under low windows, below wall thermostats and controls, in conference rooms with drop screens, along partition walls, in mail rooms, and between workstations as shared storage.
Interior Options and Accessories
The cabinet is a shell; the interior is specified. These are the standard Aurora options we configure from:
- Lateral file shelves and open reference shelves
- Reversible shelves
- Hanging folder frames
- Roll-out filing drawers — eight configurations with eleven options
- Accessory drawers and tub drawers
- Security drawers for controlled items
- Dividers in eight heights
- Converter bars for changing a bay from filing to shelving
- Retractable work surfaces and countertops
- Media storage compartments
- Garment rods and coat storage
- Magnetic follower system for keeping files upright as a bay empties
- Handgun and rifle brackets
- Keypad access, hand release and foot pedal operation
- Caster kits for mobile units, and pass-through configurations
- Wood-Tek, granite and fabric overlays on Elite units
Every Times-2 cabinet is configured to what your facility actually stores — and can be reconfigured later without replacing the cabinet.
Where Times-2 Cabinets Are Used
Corporate & departmental offices
Departmental storage, hoteling stations, reception areas, private offices and collaborative work centers — the applications Aurora lists first, and the ones where recovered floor space turns into workstations.
Law firms & legal offices
Active case files reached from one position, with locking compartments for client-confidential material in the same cabinet.
Healthcare & pharmacies
Medical records, pharmacy stock and clinical supplies in compact, lockable storage that fits rooms never designed for filing.
Government agencies
Records retention and administrative filing where the room is fixed and the file volume is not.
Law enforcement & military
Evidence and property storage, and armory storage using the handgun and rifle brackets, security drawers and keypad access options.
Schools, libraries, museums & retail
Curriculum and media storage, collection and archive storage, personal storage, and retail departmental and backroom storage.
What the recovered space is worth
Aurora publishes a worked space-planning comparison for a file room converted from lateral files to Times-2: six workstations added, ten hoteling stations added and 86 square feet returned as collaborative work space. Your numbers will differ — that is what the free layout is for — but the shape of the result is consistent, because the floor space comes out of aisle clearance and unused cabinet depth rather than out of your file volume.
| Standard lateral files | Times-2 rotary cabinet | |
|---|---|---|
| Storage access | Front only | Both sides, rotating |
| Usable depth | Single depth behind one face | Full depth from both faces |
| Units for the same capacity | Three lateral files | One Times-2 unit |
| Aisle clearance | Needs drawer pull-out space | No pull-out clearance needed |
| Use as a room divider | Not practical | Yes — accessible from both sides |
| Reconfigurable interior | Limited | Shelves, drawers, dividers and frames all interchangeable |

Choosing the Right Configuration
Tell us the contents
Letter or legal files, binders, media, supplies, garments, weapons — the contents set the interior and the width.
Measure the room
Ceiling height, doorway and elevator clearance, sprinkler and light fixture positions, and where the cabinet has to sit.
Pick the tier count
Taller units recover more floor space; we check reach heights so the top tier stays usable for your staff.
Choose access and security
Foot pedal or hand release, and which compartments need locks, security drawers or keypad access.
