Pallet Rack Security Cage Systems: Enclosures & RackBack Panels

A pallet rack security cage system uses the rack you already own as the frame of a security cage. Instead of building a separate wire partition room and moving inventory into it, wire mesh panels and doors bolt straight to the rack uprights and beams. Facilities usually need one of two things:

• A pallet rack enclosure — mesh on the back, ends and top with lockable doors on the front, so high-value stock on the rack is locked away from everyone but authorized staff.
• Pallet rack backing — mesh panels on the back of the rack only, so cartons and pallets cannot be pushed off the far side into a pick aisle or walkway. That is a safety barrier, not a locked space.

Both use the same 2 in. square, 10 gauge welded mesh in a steel angle frame, so a facility can start with backing and add end panels and doors later on the bays that need locking.

Doors are what turn a guarded rack into a locked one. Wire Crafters builds two types that bolt to the rack uprights with hand tools:

• Double hinged doors — standard 8 ft wide in 8 ft and 10 ft heights, with a padlock lug; made up to 12 ft wide x 20 ft high, with their own door posts on oversized doors
• Sliding doors — the most popular choice, sized from 8 ft x 8 ft up to 12 ft x 20 ft; on side-by-side bays they run on a double track so one door slides in front of the next

Sliding doors use almost no aisle space, which matters in narrow aisles where a hinged leaf would block forklift traffic. Hinged doors give a full-width opening when the bay is loaded by forklift.
