How to Use These Case Studies

Each case study below is a real project for a real customer. They explain what the customer needed to protect, which items went inside the cage and which did not, how doors, windows and access were chosen, and how installation fit around a working building. We do not publish layouts, sizes, quantities, prices or lock and access details for any customer.

Start with the group closest to your operation. If you are still comparing options, the security cages hub covers panel, door and ceiling choices, and the security cage cost guide explains what drives a quote.

Warehouse, Distribution and Retail Cages

Distributors and retailers cage the goods that walk: small high-value stock, staged orders, returns and anything a customer or driver can reach. These projects show where to draw the line between the open warehouse and the controlled area, and how to phase a cage as the business grows.

Will-call and customer pickup cageSeparating a public pickup counter from the working warehouse, with a staged-order enclosure

HVAC supply branch storage cageCopper, controls, tools and staged orders behind a trade counter in leased space
Retail stockroom cageWhere backroom loss really happens and how a small store cages receiving, returns and transfers
Small cage in leased spaceWhy a compact enclosure often beats a large one for a trade contractor in a leased unit

Pharmaceutical, Medical, Laboratory and Cannabis Cages

Regulated operations use cages to make status visible: released, quarantined, returned and rejected material each get their own zone. These studies also explain what a wire enclosure is not, such as a cleanroom, an environmental control or a vault, so the cage is specified for the right job.

IT Depot, Data and Network Staging Cages

Technology teams cage spares, customer-owned equipment and data-bearing devices so every item has a custodian. These projects compare access control levels and show how a cage fits with racking and an issue point.

Government, Military and Public Agency Cages

Agencies and contractors cage accountable property so custody is clear at every handoff. These studies cover buying through a federal bid, base delivery logistics and the limits of a mesh cage for regulated or classified material.

Government contractor accountable-property cageZoning government-furnished property by custody status
Military base warehouse cage bought through a federal bidBase delivery access, a mesh ceiling and later reconfiguration

Electric cooperative stores cageMeters, transformers and storm stock with after-hours crew access

Manufacturing, Maintenance and Tool Crib Cages

Plants cage tooling, gauges, critical spares and confidential work so they are issued, not borrowed. These projects show tool crib layout around cranes and forklifts, service windows, and where mesh is the wrong barrier.

Contractor, Fleet and Field Service Cages

Contractors and service fleets need cages built around the morning load-out: tools, wire, parts and keys issued fast and returned on record. Several of these projects use outdoor or mobile cages that travel with crews.

Service branch equipment cageRoute equipment, small engines and seasonal gear for a lawn and pest branch

Hospitality and Facilities Cages

Hotels and clubs cage back-of-house stock and equipment in buildings that stay open to guests and members, so layout, noise and install timing matter as much as the cage itself.

What These Projects Had in Common

  • Decide what goes in, and what stays out. Several customers deliberately kept chemicals, flammables or regulated pesticides out of a wire cage because mesh is not a rated storage cabinet.
  • Plan the issue point. A service window, dutch door or sliding door decided how fast crews and customers could be served without opening the cage.
  • Match access control to the risk. Keyed, keypad and credential-reader doors produce very different records; most projects chose the simplest level that met their audit needs.
  • Check the building first. Sprinkler clearance, egress paths, slab condition and lease terms shaped the cage as much as the contents did. See security cage anchoring and seismic bracing.
  • Leave room to grow. Bolted panels let several customers add bays, move doors or relocate the cage later instead of starting over.

Security Cage Case Study FAQs

Are these real customer projects?
Yes. Every case study comes from a completed Material Handling USA project. We name the customer and general location only.
Why don’t the case studies show sizes or lock details?
Publishing layouts, dimensions or access details would weaken the security our customers paid for, so we leave them out of every case study.
Can you build a cage like one of these for my site?
Yes. Send us the case study that is closest to your situation along with your floor plan or photos, and we will design and quote a cage for your building.
Do you install outside Utah?
Yes. We design, supply and install security cages nationwide, including on military bases and in occupied hospitals, hotels and plants.
